    I remember standing in the Roker End and a lad was slagging him off. Then a bloke who was about six foot six tall and just as wide, grabbed him by his neck, and said that Brown was his mate from Easington and he would throttle him if he slagged him off again..The lad moved away at the first opportunity..

    How about Anthony Smith. Looked really good until injury hit.

    Then there's the old chestnut Kieran Brady - all potential but had a physical problem which prompted an early retirement

    Here's a blast from the past......Roger Wilde - couldn't stop scoring in the Milk Cup final season then transferred away

    I worked with Alan for about 15 years before he retired after a work injury
    Bumpt into him a few times in Spain for a couple of night outs
