Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, Fraser Forster, Tom Heaton. Defenders: Nathaniel Clyne, Kyle Walker, Gary Cahill, Chris Smalling, John Stones, Ryan Bertrand, Danny Rose. Midfielders: Dele Alli, Ross Barkley, Fabian Delph, Eric Dier, Danny Drinkwater, Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana, James Milner, Raheem Sterling, Andros Townsend, Jack Wilshere. Strikers: Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge, Jamie Vardy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you think this is more likely to be a bad thing for us by putting him in the shop window and making him think he needs to leave to keep his place in the squad going forward, or will it be good for us by showing others that they can still make the squad if they play well, no matter who they are playing for?
He will be culled from the final squad, Andros, Rashford and Delph would be my guessing. But anyone willing to go into a major tournament with 3 cb's is stupid hasnt hodgson heard of injuries or red cards? whats the liklihood of being down to one fit Cb at somepoint. Drinkwater shouldnt go ether, Noble over him. Wilshere has been injured all season, henderson's still injured. Despite 3 being able to qualify from a group of 4, we will still go out in the groups!
Your positivity suddenly disappeared! Can't say I blame you though. Welcome to the life of miserable cynicism and suppressed hope that is the life of a Newcastle/England fan
I'm thinking Wiltshire/Henderson might be one of those culled. Good point on the CBs though. Not sure what Woy is doing there. Wilt/Hendo, Rashford and Lallana/Townsend most likely to go for me. I'd like Andros to go to the Euros because I"m convinced he'll stay at the Toon if Rafa stays and go otherwise, regardless of England call ups.
Nah, If Jack Wilshire is picked ahead of Townsend I'd be astonished. Townsend is fit, Wilshire isn't. Dier can play cb, but you're right the defence looks feeble. But truth be told, who else is there to bring? John Stones should be nowhere near the england team on last 4 mo. form. Lascelles has been much better. And no, I'm not saying he ought to go either. Really it should be Terry/Jagielka.
Townsend's always been a favourite of Woy and he's been on fire recently, so I could see him starting or at the least being on the bench. Any good performances from him though, and he'll have his release clause triggered in no time.
I'm glad that Drinkwater is in the squad. He's had a brilliant season. Noble should be in the squad in place of Wilshere though
He hasn't really gone in with 3 centre backs. Eric Dier can play there if required. I'd have done the same. Delph is a bizarre choice, I can only think there is a tactical reason for him. Wilshere is extremely fortunate. So is Sterling to be honest. Personally I couldn't have left Antonio out. Defoe is unlucky too. Noble too. I suppose you are picking Wilshere ahead of Drinkwater (who I think will be back up) and Noble thinking he is "potentially" far more talented. A popular mistake to make. I'd have been keen to take him but only if he'd ave played a lot more.
Wow, had no idea Antonio was english, yeah I'd have definitely taken him ahead of both Townsend and Sterling. I still think Sterling can be useful, I'd have also taken Carroll, not sure at the expense of whom though. I don't see any point bringing Wilshire and Delph if Drinkwater/Alli and Hendo are all fit. I see why Milner is coming because he can play anywhere.. but Lallana? Would have had Noble ahead of Lallana too. Honestly, Danny Simpson ahead of Walker and Clyne for me. He's been great this season and he's rather defensively minded. Walker and Rose play like wingers for Spurs.
Wilshere - no. Delph - no. Rashford - no. Sterling - no. Henderson - no. Stones - no. 6 out for me, then Jagielka, Noble and Terry in for their individual character and experience. Then I'd be happier. However, as that's done, I'd skim Delph, Rashford and Wilshere from the list. It's insane to think he might take Wilshere ahead of Drinkwater or Sterling instead of Townsend.
Problem I have with Phil jag is that him Stones and Baines have been in one of the worst PL defences this season. Possibly down to martinez but why risk it. If we are going on form (Rashboy and Townsy) then I would actually take Lacselles. I think it does highlight how bad our CB's situation is at the moment and it hasnt been an area of worry as a nation for so long. What's happened to Phil Jones? Is he injured? I dont pay attention, but his versatility makes him a viable option. Litterally looking at the CB's that missed ourt and they are all awful, Lescott, Dann, Caulker! when did this get so bad!
The CB stand out as a worry there. Seems a long time since Terry, Carragher and Woodgate were on the sidelines because Campbell and Ferdinand were undroppable - any of those five would be better than any other CB we have available. If Ledley King hadn't been such a sick-note that's 6 CB's all of whom were better than those we now have available. The keepers and defence are all in the squad there so its 3 going from midfield or two from midfield and one striker. Delph has to be dropped then 2 of Drinkwater/ Barkley (not been impressed in the second half of this season)/ Wilshere/ Henderson/ Rashford/ Sturridge - may just go down to how match fit some of those players are.
Phil Jones has had a plethora of injury issues. More to the point what happened to Chambers - the young lad Arsenal bought from Southampton who looked good?
Decent enough squad, more than capable. I'd take Rashford one way or another - other countries know next to nothing of him, an unknown like Gascoigne and Owen were when they were young.
Or Walcott.... I'd take Lascelles over Stones. Love/hate the fact an Englishman lifts the Premier League trophy and isn't even mentioned!!!
It's probably too late for new players to come in and displace his untouchables, especially defenders, but, I get what you mean with Morgan. He probably deserves a chance, but even though Leicester won the league, they're still unfashionable, hence I can see Vardy being their only player in the final squad..
Is Rashford any different to a Sturridge in the way he plays? I'd rather go with the experience there tbh considering they are similar players. People knock Sturridge but he has real class. Irrespective though as both would be 4th choice for me. You want Rooney and Kane starting, with Vardy coming on for Kane on 70 mins or so and put balls in behind a knackered defence and leaving them for dust.
I'd take both of them and sacrifice one of the midfielders, who more than likely wont get a game. Rooney tends to drop back into Midfield anyway. Both Sturridge and Rooney have had injuries this season, so that could be a cause for concern.
You could argue whether a 5th striker would a game though also. Especially with Dele Alli the likely understudy should Rooney get injured. Just playing devil's advocate. I don't know what the correct call is.
