No mention of Defoe during the pre-announcement speculation on Sky this morning. But Townsend gets a mention because..... he scored a few goals in the run-in. Looks like JD is too old, over the hill, past it. Edit: But he's the first choice on the voters phone-in
I think on Sunday Supplement they were suggesting he'll get a call up to the friendlies to see if there's an option for him, don't be too surprised to see him included mate. Townsend also deserves his shot, he's been far better than Walcott and Sterling have been. We all know that chump will pick Sterling though, and probably start him.
I think you and Tel are both right. Pick in the provisional squad, see how he fits in to his systems. As long as its not just for the last 10 minutes.
The games are predominantly to get the first 11 blending together and ticking before the proper games start, he shouldn't be using any of them to experiment at this stage, so I actually hope it is only substitute appearances for Defoe, he shouldn't be starting for us.
On form he should go but as a bench warmer. We have a promising young side and the future looks good for England.
Only if Woy knows his starting 11. I'm not convinced he does although the win over Germany must have given him a few clues. You're right though JD shouldn't be starting for England. Going to the Euro's would be a great end to a wonderful season for him (although I'd personally prefer him to rest up for the summer).
I think this should be the team he starts with... Although I expect him to find room for Sterling and Lallana.
Rashford, Delph, Wilshire, Drinkwater, Sterling &Townsend included in 26 man provisional squad Defoe not included - no surprise really. Here is that 26-man provisional squad in full. Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, Fraser Forster, Tom Heaton. Defenders: Nathaniel Clyne, Kyle Walker, Gary Cahill, Chris Smalling, John Stones, Ryan Bertrand, Danny Rose. Midfielders: Dele Alli, Ross Barkley, Fabian Delph, Eric Dier, Danny Drinkwater, Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana, James Milner, Raheem Sterling, Andros Townsend, Jack Wilshere. Strikers: Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge, Jamie Vardy.
WTF is that midfield? Henderson and Wilshere... for **** sake. Are they coming in wheelchairs? Delph, Sterling, Walker... what's the point? Just when you muster up some hope, there Woy is to **** it all up.
Agreed, if you'd just based your entire opinion on Sterling based on what he has done this season he'd probably be valued at about £3m and you'd be shocked if somebody told you he was a £50m purchase. Henderson and Wilshere have been out injured, Noble's had the season of his life! Somebody just kidnap that daft turd quickly whilst Mourinho is looking for a new job.
Absolutely this. So which midfielders would you take? I know Carrick would be one of your choices. Nolan from WHU?
I've just seen that he's left Carrick out actually, it didn't register at first, it's fine though, we've got Milner. I don't think I've ever hated an England manager as much as him, so much opportunity to blend youth and experience and he's gonna **** it all up again. Yeah, I'd take Noble as well mate.
Disappointing to see Carrick being left out of the squad when the likes of Delph and Wilshere can get a place (why bother with Delph when you're taking Drinkwater and Dier?). Interesting to see Rashford in the provisional squad, can't see it being any more than a token gesture to be honest, he has played well and looks a prospect but I just can't see a scenario where he'll get some game time at the euros.
Yeah, I think it's well known that Rashford's only there to train with his future team mates and nothing more. I guess the logic in it is in case there is an injury to one of the other four strikers, he'll be the replacement and automatically become 4th choice I'd assume. I can't really argue a case for Carrick, he's been brilliant for us, but like Defoe has for you. I'd be a hypocrite if I said he had to go, he's old and we have to look to the future. I just hoped we'd see the likes of Noble and Antonio in, instead of cripples like Henderson/Wilshere and absolute **** like Sterling and Walker.
