Hartley scores in the 92nd. minute for Argyle.

Conor Chaplin on for Pompey, in a last ditch effort.

Plymouth were the better team today, we should have put it to bed at FP. At least it wasn't Matt that scored the winner that would have been tough to take. He had enough chances.

    Final whistle.

    1-0 to Argyle.

Their fans produce a pitch invasion.

Thanks lambayama - a bit gutting but not totally unexpected. We're carrying too many injuries for one, but we haven't got the team right yet. But hey ho. We live to fight another day.

The direction of travel is the important thing. Better than last season? Good. Look forward to next season.

Probably because we were playing against a dirty side.

I have never been a fan of play offs, for me I would rather see 4 up and 4 down form each league, there are 46 games to determine who goes up/ down, should the teams in 4th/ 5th tie on points and goals, then they could play a winner takes all game, 90 mins then pens, plain and simple. Unfortunately, he play offs are a media/ FL spin that makes money for the likes of sky!

For me.....we finished in 6th, all season we conceded late goals......you dont win games doing that.......so on the balance of play Plmouth should go on to the final, where I hope they meet Accy......who I hope win.......then the order of fairness is restored :emoticon-0110-tongu

Having just got home from the game.....I have mixed emotions, I hate loosing, but we were not good enough on the day, the ref was much better today and our players have to learn to stop winging and get on with it to the end whistle, too often we switch off and get punished. Hopefully cooky and co will make a couple of signings this summer to strengthen the areas we have gaps and we can push on next season in style........

Firstly Pompeylapras Argyle are not a dirty side. To be honest sometimes I wish they would put it about a bit more but they are not as you describe. Secondly, on the night Argyle were the better side and should have wrapped this game up a lot easier and a lot sooner. Over the course of the two legs it was tight and either side could have won it. I absolutely think you will be promoted next season and that isn't pandering to the losing side. I genuinely think you will do it and probably as champions this time.

After the match I was stood outside the ground waiting for my mates and son to emerge. I can't do all this wait for the players to come back out bit. Anyway at least a dozen or so Pompey fans did the congrats thing and wished Argyle well in the final as they passed. Two younger lads stopped and we had a chat about the season for both sides. Very pleasant chat it was and we parted with a hand shake and my wish they had a safe journey home. All I can say is first class supporters. I agree with bornpompey regarding the play offs and have already said that in a previous post or two.

One more reason why I hate the playoffs. I've just been looking at the ticket arrangements for the final. Apparently the club can't cope so they are offloading it all to ticketmaster who only work online or phone. Every ticket you buy will cost a booking fee of £2.40 and to get them posted another £2.40. Coach travel can be booked seperately via the club on a first come basis. In other words you are on your own getting there. The last time we went in the last millenium all I had to do was go to the club shop, buy a ticket and a coach seat together and that was job done. This is going to be expensive from down here. Another way to rip off supporters.

I think that once Portsmouth get the initial promotion that the wheels will be in motion and they will probably arrive on the Championship within a few seasons. A resurgent Portsmouth will be an attraction to future investment and it might prove much easier for you playing at a higher level than in football's basement where things are almost impossible to predict. However, I think that it will prove to be a real challenge for you to get out of Division Two simply because you are the team that everybody want to beat. Even most of us Saints fans are surprised at how difficult you have found this league and the prediction within the season preview in WSC each August just seem to reflect that everyone feels that Portsmouth continue to underachieve. During the slide down the leagues it was catastrophic financial problems which did for you , not helped by unfair points deductions but Pompey are now probably the richest club in your league, have the best support and the deepest resources yet you consistently seem to fail to assemble as squad that is decisive enough to attain an automatic promotion place.

It is a fascinating contrast to compare and contrast the fates of Saints and Portsmouth. Southampton now seem to be run with a degree of professionalism that is proving more successful that any other time than the legendary days of Lawrie Mac whereas Portsmouth have adopted the romantic approach of a fan base -owned club which most non-partial football fans would like to see as a model for other teams. I don't honestly think that there is much more than Portsmouth can do to get promotion and I am not convinced that PFC are actually doing anything wrong. Sacking managers is not the solution. For me, I feel that fate and luck have a lot to play in this. If it proves to be "your season" and the squad clicks, you will get promotion. It is anyone's guess which team this will be down in the lower leagues but I feel that simply being the biggest club in the league probably makes promotion much harder in the long run. I don't think any Portsmouth fans (even the ever optimistic Singing Blue) would have anticipated that your sojourn in Division 2 would last four seasons.
