The 9/11 planes basically became piloted missiles. Astro has a point in that no they are not the traditional, perhaps immediate image we associate with a suicide bomber ... the explosive vest wearing zealot entering targets shouting Allahu Akbar - though I'm sure not all of them shout that and the phrase has become misused. However, the fact that they have planned and then successfully carried out the weaponisation of two massive flying canisters of fuel with red hot engines and zeroed them in on two huge skyscrapers to capitalise on that (let's just continue the guided missile analogy and forget the passengers and crew as I'm sure the only way the terrorists factored them into the plan was subduing them) knowing they would obviously have to go to their own deaths and you could call them suicide bombers. On a tangent Japanese pilots in WW2 were suicide pilots. But I think we need to reason what suicide is here though, it's deliberately dying by your own hand. The pilots of the planes then definitely committed suicide, so we can consider them to be suicide bombers of a different sort, using a non-conventional method. The other terrorists were flown to their deaths by somebody else so is that technically suicide? They got on the planes knowing the only or highly probable outcome if the plan succeeded would be death, but they haven't technically died by their own hand, unless you can call making that decision to get on a plane whose final destination was a skyscraper, and that would result in certain death, suicide.

Yep...guided missile or tank of fuel dropped by US is just a delivery mechanism. If you ride the mechanism knowing there is no way out......

 

Yeah, given the final at weekend I would expect a youth team now.

 

At least Utd can now play reserves v bournemouth so the final is unaffected.

End of day...most attacks are about causing chaos and fear....then paranoid reaction to prove how bad the enemy is...

Balance is always trying to protect your citizens while not imprisoning those citizens...we all whinge if a bomb gets through but we all whinge if the state over reacts....

We learnt over here that it's citizen vigilance that usually stops these things as much as state Intel. That's not just a punter noticing a bag...it's the minimum wage security guard not leaving a delivery door open because the bread man always comes at 10 on a Tuesday etc ...or noticing a pleb in a workers only area etc...

But we only stay that sharp unfortunately when the govt makes us fearful...then it can turn into paranoia....

 

A training exercise was held by external company in week before game. Device was left by mistake. No hoax.
