A real shame not to have the game going ahead - Old Trafford is a long way for the United fans to have travelled...

Sounds like they were a bit too hasty in calling the match off.
I guess there is a possibility of other devices, but sounded like they had sorted before 3pm games had finished, so they could have started the game at 5;30pm

I think they wanted the crowd dispersed. If it had been a bomb...there could have been others. People are very quick to blame the police if things go wrong, so can't blame them for being ultra careful.

I guess if there is a chance of the game being back on people would hang around near the area.

However, I did wonder if they could have played this behind closed doors this evening. Rotten for the fans, but it would save disruption to the players and clubs plans.

Never too hasty where safety is concerned. It was the right call.

They wouldn't have known at the time if there were other devices and the whole place could well have been a crime scene. It's a shame that they can't play it tomorrow evening, though.

Why the final games have to be on Sunday is another downside on getting this incrediblely freak scenario resolved quickly

Could there have been any possibility of getting all the fans over to the Eihad ?

Not ideal but at least the game goes ahead?

As for a new date, thinking about players being released for Euros etc. Champions League Final is the Saturday after the Cup Final so the Madrid players won't be released until then, so I guess they could do MU v AFCB before then too.

Putting the incident to one side, this is brilliant news for us. There is little reason for Utd not to rest most of their team now, putting sole focus on the Cup final just days later. They're secured top six, and can't get top four. A small amount of cash for an extra place, plus the security of a EL group stage place (rather than possibly having to qualify) is all there is for them to play for now. Surely the FA Cup is more important, so the likes of surely Martial and Smalling will be rested. Similarly, Bmouth now know that if they go for it (ie don't rest half their team this time) then there are a further two PL places up for grabs.

We could yet hang onto 5th.

A goal, an assist, and a red card on a horror tackle...it's the Paul Scholes hat trick.

Just kidding, Scholes never saw red for his horror tackles.
