Right then. Big, big football day in this household! No, MASSIVE football day! It's off to Sixfields this afternoon for my boys' team Cup Final. Fabulous for the boys to get to play on a proper ground and in a stadium (albeit, "we've got a shed that's bigger than this...") and it will be a special day for them. They're not too happy about wearing shirt and tie to the match but they'll get over that once they get changed into their kits. Come on you navy blue with yellow trims!!!
Watching a bit of the womens FA cup final and I never knew that Southampton won the very first womens FA Cup in 1971. Sorry if this has been mentioned on this forum before In fact, Southampton won the first three FA Cups in fact again, they appeared in all of the first ELEVEN FA Cup finals. Winning Eight and runner up in 3.
Athletic into the EL group stage next season. Well done to them and it is good they still adhere to "cantero" thus developing and promoting local and regional talent in an area that numbers no more than around 3/4 million. It may be less so that is a fantastic achievement when everyone else in the top divisions in Europe scours the world.
Ah, my boys lost 3-2 today. We lead 1-0 and 2-1, missing a hatful of chances .... Great day out though.
Hard luck to you and the team. I've refereed a couple of finals (one at St Mary's ) and I know what a great day they are.
Talk about parallels between Athletic and Saints. Both had a rather poor start to the season, both have had a good second half and both have finished by qualifying for the EL. Both clubs are based in port cities. Southampton welcomed thousands of Basques during the Spanish Civil War and both play in red and white and black shorts. In recent times, both have moved into bigger stadiums. Do you think Saints fans, and perhaps the two clubs should set up a formal? The exchange could be cultural, educational, sporting.
Our cultural ambassador is Matt Le Tissier, who has already received an award from Bilbao. That's a good start. Wouldn't it be great to meet them in the Final.?
@AberdeenSaint I noticed that Aberdeen have released ex-Blackburn striker David Good Willie. I always felt that if he could get up for a game, he would be hard to handle.
