Why the Hell would Benitez take the Toon job?

That's what the fat **** did at chelsea. Then rewrote history Scouse style saying he got us into 4th spot.

We were second when he took over.

Gus took us over in 17th spot with more divided side and done much better job.

... I might be hating him on Tuesday <laugh> ... alternatively I might love him to bits and hope that the Toon go on to win every game from then on <laugh>

Just clarifying as "we were second when Benitez took over and he took us to fourth" is one of the multitude of lines CFC trots out ad nauseum.

Can you clarify where I said he took us to fourth.

My usual Rafa line is actually that he was brought in to challenge for title and took us from four points off the top to 20 in three months

    I said he 'rewrote
history Scouse style' ... maybe I should have added claiming the glory for getting us into CL.

It is hardly like we were in the relegation zone when he took over. In fact we were still in the title race when he took over, which he took us out very quickly by ceding leads to Reading West Ham e Newcastle Saints losing at home to QPR.

He also managed to nause the weakest ever World club championship, lose to Swansea home and away in league cup, scrape a draw against Brentford and lose to Steaua, Rubin Kazan in the EL.

All in the space of three months. Then player power took over led by JT, we recovered and got a CL spot

  12. Very far-sighted on my part, I'd say. Most of the Toon players were playing in the shop window for next season. Our players were already on holiday.

Agreed, very poor management by Poochy.

  14. Possibly. I think he may have been naive is simply trusting that the players would know that they were still fighting for that 2nd spot. I'm betting he won't make that mistake again.

Also, some of our players have proven that they simply do not have what it takes to play at the kind of level that Poch demands. The fact that we so utterly crumbled after losing Alli and then Dembele is evidence that this squad is far from the finish article and that we need to strengthen at the cost of losing two or three light-weights.

    In answer to the OP.

Because he'd be adored by 52,000 fans week in week out and saw a performance today on the pitch which showed him the potential of this piss poor side as we tore apart a team fighting for the title a week or two ago?

Come on HIAG... jump in :)

Surely a decent manager should ensure that, with North Laandan bragging rights up for grabs the players put in the effort that the great away fans did? The away fans were loud as **** the first half today and travelled in big numbers btw.

  18. Mentality fcuked, Chippy. Poch mentioned something about it after the Chelsea game.
