It was a suspected bomb actually and there was a controlled explosion. We of all fans should recognise and respect that and not take the Mickey <doh>

Football is NEVER worth putting lives at risk. Even if they are mancs ones. Tribalism must have its limits.

Threat was raised last week on mainland due to Intel on dissident reps...if it's them it's more likely a hoax...their capability is still quite limited.

18-0 would do it. I didn't add the 18 to their current tally <laugh>

I think you guys need to think about this.

    It's really serious.

    1. Whatever security was there... first it did get in there but.. they found it and had orderly evacuation and nobody got hurt

    2. This has serious implications s for all games going forward

    3. We should all be thanking god nobody got hurt here.

I hope it's a hoax... I really do but it just does go to show how blaise half of the country is about this stuff.

Any unidentified package is a "suspected bomb" and undergoes a controlled explosion. That's why you're continuously reminded not to leave luggage unattended at airports, train stations or even shops, the police will blow it up as a standard procedure.

    ****ing arseholes

It'd make no sense to do it at old Trafford of so.

It it was rung in as a tip off then it would point to these play actors... of it was isis it would have gone off.

Main issue as you say is slack security...threat level was raised on Thursday I think for mainland attack...stadiums are clearly a big target..

So you think that the match should have been played irrespective of the risk because we can't be sure that it is a real bomb? Just not to give a team a supposed advantage?

They don't blow things up.. a controlled explosion is a shaped charge like an rpg to burn the explosives or take out the detonator

It would look rather like the shoot the thing.....

There won't be any damage in the ground.... You'd be pretty freaking going to rearranged game and seeing scorch marks where you would have been sat.

Thank god it was well dealt with and everyone evacuated safely as well... if if a hoax.

No I don't, but the FA should ask Man Utd to review their security procedures concerning access to the stadium. Just like they should ask them to review their travel arrangements after multiple failures to arrive on time.

I don't know it is slack security. There's so many entry points that searching all is next to impossible. My worry is we will end up with a wide cordon streets away from grounds with searches there limiting access for all severely.

In the end they dealt with it pretty well didn't they?

    No panic.

Yeah some nerve shredding decision making needed.... kept fans already inside so they weren't being evacuated against the crowd being held outside...if a bomb goes off you'll face criticism that you kept them in..if you panicked and let them out and crushing happens ....well we know about that....wouldn't want to be the guy making the call....

I know, it's just a phrase. "Controlled explosion" can refer to a range of methods to deal with a package, including firing compressed air or water at it.

Yeah...touched on that in previous post....but no it is slack security...as Sousness said...stadium should be checked night before and again on the morning with dogs...after that all entry points should be controlled.

They evacuated half the ground then swept it then the other half I think.

Yes I think if it were isis and another 2 or 3 guys had been in there.. well. .

But to say everyone out instantly is risky too. The design of the ground is such that it's stairwells and such that are where the issue can arise so I would say the predetermined response plan would have called for orderly evacuating by stand.

I just have to say hang on with the silly abuse of Utd.... We've been moaning about smoke bombs at lfc and guys could get anything in so..... just lucky....

Wasn't meaning any abuse...always very difficult to prevent a determined attacker just that with a security alert in effect efforts should have been concrete at all grounds this weekend...

I'm sure we'll hear if a call with code words was made prior etc...Although with the dissidents (if them) that can't be trusted as the poor people of Omagh found out...

    This.
This could represent a serious development to premiership football. Remember Paris and the Stade de France. Security could well need to be boosted. Otherwise we will have regular abandonments of matches.

All football fans will be put at risk and I like you don't see this as a good reason to blame the mancs or lambast them for taking advantage.
