I disagree. If he got them as fired up as he did for the Chelsea debacle, why couldn't he replicate at least 50% of that to finish the season off with dignity intact? I put this whole shoddy episode down to the inexperience and immaturity of youth. Hansen was 100% - you can't win with kids. People forget that the United team he was wrong about contained the likes of Pallister, Bruce, Irwin, Keane and Cantona as its core, nurturing and guiding the class of '92. We've sorely lacked that this year, from the bench downward. I worry that Poch seems pathologically committed to relying on signing youngsters. The end to this season has shown that a Gallas/Naybet/Parker/Davids signing can be worth its weight in gold.
The manager is responsible for motivating the players, whatever happens on-pitch. No way a Fergie team would have lost 5-1 come FT given the "talking to" they would have got at HT.
Such a shame for our travelling fans. They deserved better. If the home fans had matched their fervour we may have had better home results and been closer to winning the league. We are also going to have to wait a long time to avenge this defeat
It's been a more competitive league, so the points are more evenly distributed. Lots of draws and supposedly big sides like Liverpool finishing well down the table.
Some very interesting points that you raise. But I guess it's difficult to motivate the players when they know their best chance of winning the title had ended. I think today has to be down to the players though. There really are no excuses for what happened today, especially against a side who had nothing to play for.
Correct. There are lots of 'ifs' in your post though RCL, and success is premised on 'whens'. 'If' all the things you've mentioned are built upon and learned from, then I am in full agreement - this season can be looked back on as a 'success'. Right now, it is a 'transition'. Sometimes, transitions work out for the best (appointing Harry), sometimes they turn out terribly (AVB and Baldini rebuilding the squad). We won't know the truth about this season until May 15th 2017 as far as I'm concerned.
Why would it be funny? You could end the season on a high, but it won't change your league position. Why's it on Wednesday, anyway? Stupid day for a cup final.
Funny that, in the worst season, we still finish above your lot. Really Spuds, when you are having a mare season, Spuds always seems to come up trumps. Wow, BEST Spuds team ever.... Still could not finish above, what is arguably an Arsenal mediocre side. Can't wait for MOTD today! Are you going to watch Citizen?
He gave the ball away a lot and when he wasn't doing that he was playing slow, safe balls. I'm not so much blaming Carroll as a player but more Pochettino's thinking, Carroll's shown he's no more suited to the role than Michel Vorm. I'd have had Eriksen there and put someone up with Kane.
Mag in peace. You'll come back stronger next season. The players did not seem up for it today and ours are in the shop window. It was the perfect storm.
Kane has showed more bottle than anyone. Our problem is that we panic but I don't think it's a problem that's not fixable, the players will learn to keep their heads better in the long run.
