FFS, give the lad a chance. You say you're disappointed that we aren't bringing more young players through, whilst criticising our brightest young prospect for not being a world-beater already. I'm sick of our 'fans' getting on Prowse's back. He has never let us down, and is improving every year in tremendously difficult position. How will he ever become a great player without being given the chance to develop?
Blimey all this criticism of JWP....He is only 21 or so..........ok he has only scored 6 goals in a 104 appearances but he hasn't been on the pitch 90 minutes for all the games. Yes the odd start to finish but mainly anything from 45 minutes down to 20 minutes or so. It certainly isn't correct therefore to compare him to all the ones that were listed previously. He is not at the moment the finished product and will not be until he has more continuous game time. Hell though he is getting there and it is beginning to show. His signing is a good one for the future of the club and given time will definitely shine a lot more. Personally I think he is a Davis replacement in the making and will be better given the right encouragement.
This season JWP has started really tackling properly, which I always thought to be the main weakness in his game. If he can add into that the confidence boost he'll have when a couple of free-kicks go in, I think he'll be a top-class midfielder. Vin
Goals scored are an irrelevant stat for a player that occupies JWP's position. Luka Modrić scored a grand total of 7 goals in 114 appearances for Real Madrid, and he's one of the best central midfielders in the world. IMO it's really misguided to bemoan JWP on the account of his lack of goals scored. He's not a goalscorer, and he'll probably never will be. Doesn't mean there aren't things he brings on the pitch that are of huge importance from the team. That being said, I feel there are many aspects of his game that can and must improve. He seems to be good at most things, but not really great at any of them (except set pieces, but I'm talking about general play). That's why he can't nail a place in the team - there's either someone better defensively than him (Wanyama, Romeu), or someone offering more in the buildup of the attack (Davis), or someone with a better balance between the two (Clasie). IMo JWP needs to improve his defensive abilities (and I think that this season he has, to an extent, but further improvement is still needed, at least for Ron to feel comfortable enough to pick him instead of Romeu/Wanyama) and his range of passing (while he has the technical ability, his choice of passes is not very imaginative. If he had that ability to dictate the play, that would improve his odds of becoming the starter immensely).
Blimey went away for a weeks hols and 3 players have extended their contracts. Does anyone want to pay for me to go away again?
I didn't think there was any need for you to start saying words like S******* especially before the watershed.
Well, that's cleared that up. It's right up there with your certainty that Pompey wouldn't go down (they did), that Saints wouldn't get promoted the same season (they did).
Agreed. I think it's Nigel's fault - fancy giving a debut to a 17 year old away at the Champions in the first game back in the Prem. 21? Never - he must be 26 by now....
Technically he made his debut in the FA Cup away to Coventry - and scored! Maybe he set the bar too high that day.
Jeez. Let's all stop then. Some Liverpool scout wasn't convinced, that's it game over. All your posts have done on this topic is discredit your footballing knowledge for me. You may actually turn out to be correct, but if your argument is that one Liverpool Scout decided against him and that's enough for you, then good luck to you. Very odd argument.
I think that you should perhaps re-read my threads as you have, yet again, misquoted me. Football is about opinions. You rate JWP, I feel that he is a squad player at best . Get over it, ffs.
No I haven't. I haven't quoted you at all. What I have said is that you have made a big thing about Liverpool scouting him and then deciding against him. This does not mean he's not good enough. It's almost ludicrous to use that as part of an argument. There are hundreds of examples of clubs scotluting someone who turns out to be great. I actually feel as many have said here that he is only 21 and although not yet established starter, he still has plenty of time and the ability to be that. Don't get so sensitive, it's just a debate
Anyone fancy trying to win a pair of signed boots of JWP, that some scout from Liverpool thought is rubbish
