We can afford 1 weak player in back 4 next season. Cannot continue all 4 weak in back 4 next season.

If same back 4 next season, I see top 10 struggle.

Yeah our defence needs strengthening big time.
Infact we need at least 4-5 players if we want to challenge, depending on who leaves.

Falcao and Remy are more or less definitely going
    Costa is rumoured to disgruntled
JT may leave if he doesnt accept his new one year contract.

We need at least 2 defenders, 1 striker and one midfielder for me.

Good to see Chelsea finally listening to the fans and showing a club legend a little respect!

Glad to see this. I'd let Cahill go and keep JT. But we need to recruit well in the summer. Our defence has been awful all year.

Its got to be good for us to have him around........... surely he can sit on the bench and help the youngsters?
Still China maybe turning his head.

Sure China may be an option. However if JT works this 'Different role' and clicks it may very well be long term stint.

    yup.
Not a big Cahill fan, never have been.
Nothing against the guy, he seems decent, and he is a decent player, but he could be easily improved upon.

Cahill can be a good squad player.
Shouldn't be a regular CB especially with JT we will be super exposed.

Yeah i'd keep him in the squad. Though that probably wouldn't be good for his England career and he'd move on.
I wouldn't shed too many tears.
Our CB pairing next year needs to be Zouma and a new guy. With JT and Cahill as back up. We need a new Right back too.
The only player in our back four I would keep in the starting XI is Dave.

Agree Bod - But Zouma shows his lack of experience every now & then. So new CB need to be experienced head.
If not I am ok with JT & Zouma as long as JT is not stretched too thin playing too many matches.

I was the first one to call JT hang up his boots. But after reading the 'Different role' I am very much thrilled.
It is either a player / coach or lesser games with mentoring responsibility. This can be a huge difference.

"Different role" is like a new signing to me <ok>

one thing a lot of people and even cfc are not considering is that Zouma might not come back the player we knew, and could be permanently affected by his injury. I think we should be considering that cahill and ivanovic could be our starting 2, in that case, I'd happily keep terry for whatever money/role he wants, and possibly sign another experienced cb..(although nobody jumps out at me in particular).

Christensen will be back in a years time barring more stupidity from the boardroom, at this point hopefully Zouma and he can be our back 2 starters.

I don't, should have put 'maybe, even' rather than just 'even'.

saying this if they are they wouldnt be messing jt around like this.

    (i'd hope)

Perhaps they were waiting for Conte to say yes or no, no point in offering a contract if Conte was going to embarrass him by sitting him in the stiffs.

no. conte is head coach. he has no power over transfers, even jose didnt have total control over transfers. even if this was the case, why would conte wait for a month or two before deciding he wanted terry? the transfer window isnt open or anything so how could he make any objective or informed decisions?

this is a boardroom thing pure and simple.

Fair point about the time delay, he could have been trying to get somebody to agree to sign and failed though
I am just trying to come up with a reason for the delay.

I can tell. a lot of people want make out like chelsea fans are being unreasonable about how jt has been treated, yet when you analyse it-its clear the man has been dealt a bad hand for no real reason.
