I think what Gill was inferring was that Rooney has always failed in the big tournament finals..His record in the qualifiers is great, but he has never done it on the really bib stage..
Nor has Cristiano Ronaldo I'm not gonna defend Rooney as I don't think he's got his fire anymore and that was half of who he is as a player. His record in big tournaments is nowt to brag about but only Ashley Cole and Michael Owen have come out of any Tournament post Euro 96 with any credit, the country have consistently let us down time and time again and enough times Jermain Defoe has been a part of those squads.
Can't believe anyone would take injury prone Carroll! And no, I wouldn't take Wilshere, Sturridge, or Henderson either. Actually I just remembered I don't care about "team england", so ignore me.
Carroll offers something for that last 10 mins if we need a goal, nobody gets anywhere near him physically, he's the biggest bully in this league by far. That's the only reason, he wouldn't be starting. I always say I don't care about England but when the comps come round I always get sucked in, I love my country and I love this game.
Don't get me wrong..I believe that Rooney has certainly earned his place, and I have a feeling that this is going to be a good tournament for him. What i am saying is that I also believe that Defoe has earned a place if it is based on current form..I will not be too disheartened if he doesn't go though, as that should mean he will be fresher for us next season..
Definitely deserves to go on merit mate, I don't think anybody can argue with that. My logic for leaving him is simply because I believe we have enough options in his position already and each of those maybe with the exception of Vardy, represents the future of our nation. I'd love Rashford to go as well, I can't wait for him to be cheered on by England fans, but I know it's not right to take him, it's just a bit too soon.
