Jermain Defoe was on 5 Live last night and had a few good things to say about the team spirit, playing for the lads, Sam coming in and how he turned it all around. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b079n4yh Also talked about playing for England - He's not expecting anything but it would be a dream come true to go to Euro 2016. The interview starts at 1:19
The only chance he has of getting a call up is if Hodgson wants to take five strikers instead of four.
Not for me mate, it's like leaving Ashley Cole at home for the World Cup, if he goes back on those principals he's just a fumbling idiot. He's building the team for the future. He has had a great season and nobody can deny that but for me it's the right choice to leave him out. It'll be a bitter pill to swallow mind, if he picks Sterling to go, which I fully expect him to.
No mistake mate Kane & Vardy first choice. Rooney has to go for me, for stature, for leadership. I'd take Sturridge and Defoe, as it stands his shot is Sturridge breaking a fingernail and missing the tournament.
I can see your point but at the end of the day it's a knock out competition and I would always take the best team/players at the time to win it. I keep hearing the future is important and build the youth up but I've been hearing that for 20 years.
Looking at our current options I wouldn't take him. I'd take Carroll as the 5th striker as he offers something completely different to any other striker. If Sturridge got injured pre-tournament I'd replace him with Defoe because we need experience coming off the bench. If Kane or Vardy got injured I would very biased-ly replace either with Rashford.
I'd actually take Rooney as a midfielder and take Carroll and Defoe. Midfield is not so strong and forwards are stronger at the moment.
I'd take that. Give me Defoe over Sterling/Walcott any day, neither of those players offer anything to a team sport.
Yeah Rooney for me would be better supporting Kane and Vardy up top. I think his supply would be fantastic to them
I can see where ya coming from with that but why then take Rooney? He has had 3 world cups and 2 Euro's and been gash in every one of them. Dont get me wrong I think Rooney is class but as a midfielder or just behind the strikers now, But regarding these tourno's he has been poor every time. Woy said he would pick players "on merit". If that is the case he has to go ahead of Sterling and to some extent Sturridge, I am not knocking Sturridge there either he's a bloody good player but JD has got 15 goals in a poor team. He definitely deserves his chance. Having said that he wont go cos he doesnt play in Manchester or for one of the Laandaan clubs.
You can't take Rooney as a striker because he no longer scores enough goals. He should play in a creative attacking role. 4 strikers: Kane, Vardy, Sturidge, Defoe. My team would look like this: ..............................Hart............................ Clyne........Smalling..Cahill.............Rose ...........Dyer...Henderson..Ali................ ........................Rooney........................... ..............Kane.............Vardy.................. 3 in the midfield with Rooney behind a front 2, width comes from the full backs. Dyer and Henderson would sit and let Ali have a free role.
I wouldn't take Rooney if it were my choice by the way, so any bias inferences can stop right there! Alli in behind the strikers for me. Henderson CM scares the **** out of me especially since he's injured, But I admit we are short in there so I won't cry if he gets picked. Because of JH's injury, Carrick should start, as captain alongside Dier in CM.
Country's record goalscorer I'd suggest is a bit of stature. Highest scoring current player in the Premier League. Aye, stature
Was not inferring any bias. I just think like stated earlier he has had his chance but if he is going I believe JD deserves his, on merit.
If that is the case then I stand corrected. Are we referring to the qualifiers as well as the finals there tho?
