Yet in recent years Juventus have left a large, council-owned stadium, built their own Stadium ( a sensible sized one which ensures it is full every week with a good atmosphere) and had on field success with a similar amount of income to us. Maybe it is the wealthy owners. Maybe it was their sponsors which make the difference. If only we had changed our name...

Or they play in a different country where the money goes a hell of a lot further and the competition is significantly weaker?

What makes you think money goes further in Italy? Building costs are significantly lower, are they?
Try sitting down for a coffee or ice cream in Italy and see how far your money goes.
Yes, all those little clubs like Inter, Milan, Lazio, Roma, Naples are so weak.

This is just TV income, their overall income was much higher than ours.

Which was why Imsaid it was maybe because of their wealthy owners. Or sponsors.
It can't be gate money as football is so cheap,in Europe compared to here according to some.

Yeah good point, they'd have won the Champions League if that coffee and ice cream wasn't so bloody expensive.

So you agree your statement about things costing less there was ill-informed? Thanks.

The average wage and signing fee is lower in Italy, money goes further.

The price of coffee and ice cream is irrelevant (not to mention wrong) but that's par for the course with your posts.

Go for a coffee in the middle of an Italian city and compare it to Hull. Though it must be easier to persuade players to live in Rome, Milan, Florence and others than most of our cities.

Yeah but italians save money on maintenance - cause they don't ****ing do any. They pass it off as the style but in reality it's a crumbling mess.

I remember Gabriele Marcotti saying a couple of years ago that no club in the world has more media scrutiny than Roma. I cant remember the exact quote but he said something like it has 2 tv channels, 4 radio stations and one of the country's best selling newspapers dedicated solely to As Roma. Every single training session is broadcast live on tv therefore, in his eyes, it makes it the most difficult club to manage in world football.

But then he's a bit mental.

The city of Naples council is spending 25m euro this summer on the Stadio San Paulo just to make the electrics work, put in actual toilets and clean away decades of literal ****e that have formed into stalactites on the concourses. I really dont know why they're bothering, sounds fine to me... Seriously though, it is an odd move spending that much when everyone else thinks they should just knock it down.

Land will be cheaper in Italy on average then the UK.

And it's the value of land that determines the value of everything else.

Wine and pizza's cheap in Italy, I used to regularly go to Florence and there was a place in the Piazza della Repubblica where they were practically giving it away and it's the best pizza I've ever had (though I've never been to Naples).

Florence, that awful place going to rack and ruin and left to crumble by the Italians?<laugh>

Ever been to a Fiorentina game? Would love to go to one. Cultured city with lunatic football fans.

If you like pizza and are in the Cotswolds there is a great Italian restaurant in Bourton on the Water. Was talking to an American who had been on a European tour including Italy and she said it was the best pizza she had ever had. Didn't have pizza myself but the meal I had was excellent.
Funny isn't it, pizza is another working man's dish which became popular but the locals wanted to move away from it as they became better off before going back to their roots.

I agree, people have a misconception that it costs ****loads but I've regularly had local wine straight from the jug for 4 euros a litre and its some of the best wine Ive ever had. Same with pizza, enormous and amazing for just a few euros, it is peasant food after all. if you pay £8 a pint in the Piazza del Duomo then you're a twerp.

Have been to Naples for the day when staying in Sorrento, didnt get pizza.

I have. Went on a romantic weekend last autumn - with a woman before anyone asks - for which she booked the apartment and through sheer fluke it was a 10 min walk from the Franchi. So I talked her into it as an experience and it really was - a good modern ground, light years ahead of Giuseppe Meazza in terms of facilities, with great food and drink all around it. Beat Atalanta 3-0 to cement their place at the top of the league before ti went tits up after Christmas.
