In the same way as Steve Lovell saying he doesn't bear any grudge against JE for being sacked - and reminding JE that he ( Lovell ) was instrumental in JE getting the manager's job ......... " ungrateful b*****d "
............anyway, it's good to see that this thread has taken a more positive direction ! With all the clear out that's happening, we might stand a chance of getting players and a 'system' that might work for us. Scally has, today, got a bit more money to use - I notice that he's cleared out £385 from my bank account - and talking about 'clearing out' - it's time I got out of bed.....this is the life !
What ever happened to building a team around a core group of players that stay constant over a number of years (I'm thinking like Pennock-Butters-Smith-Hessenthaler-Southall)? Every season we seem to have a massive clear-out, with large amounts of dead wood being disposed of, and new potential dead wood being bought in. We need to sign good players that aren't so good/flashy that they'll immediately be off to the Championship as soon as they have a good season. Easier said than done, I guess. But Pulis managed it all those years ago!
That time has gone i am afraid. Its all about money. We did try to conpeat when we were in the championship with the itv digital money but nearly went bust. We get players on 2 year contracts because we are not sure if they are good enough then if they are, they want more money to stay because they no they will get thousands more at a higher level. The younger youth players are cheaper to keep as they are still young and want to develop before leaving. We cannot offer big salaries as we are a small club. It seems the loan system is now more and more used as that is the cheaper option and you can get prem or championship players who wont get a look in at there club as they have too many players.
Good points - I guess it's only at the top level you have club loyalty (e.g. Man City, Chelsea and a few years back Man U all had a core of players that stayed together for years). Sad times.
Looks very likely Gills will sign Newport cap and player of year Mark Byrne. Sounds like a decent player and could even be new captain.
We have so few decent players left I reckon if you turned up you'd at least get a place on the bench....
An answer to the question "How many will start next season?" At the present injury rate............not many.
think line up will be Nelson Jackson Oshilaga Ehmer Konchesky Osadebe Wright Dack Knott McDonald Quigley
