I'm delighted he stayed as long as he did (helped us no end) but some of the defending last night was comical - can;t really blame the gaffer for the first goal - what the hell was the keeper doing - if he stands still and lets the wall deal with the other side he ball is literally straight at him around a yard from the middle of the goal. First half your tactic seemed to be so anti-martinez (get it up to Lukaku quickly) and he didn;t seem to give a damn either! If he's still there by ther time I've finished typing this post I'll be surprised. Who do you want if/when he goes? (I like Everton for the most part - have had some run ins with the fans in the past but have nothing against the club)
The players have been tanking on him since March mate. He should have gone minutes after the derby debacle and before the SF, but they were intent on giving him a 'dignified' exit at the seasons end. However, things have got that bad, that he'll almost certainly now go before the final home game on Sunday - to spare him and the club the guaranteed fumefest that will meet him if he's still in situ. We've got funds to spend due to the new investor and added to this the funds that will come from the seemingly inevitable sales of Lukaku and Stones (both of whom want to go) then the new man will have a very tasty budget to work with. Therefore the job is way more attractive than it was when we appointed Martinez. I therefore expect some real calibre managers to be interested. We've already spoken to a number over the last 4 weeks.
Yeah I'd heard that you'd spoken to people not sure who though. New owner is a plus for you as well. I don;t mind Martinez but he's a lower level premier league manager - everyone said how well he did at Wigan but he ended up relegating them and struggled against it every season with some decent players. You need a next level manager that the players will look up to
Exactly mate Glad you stayed up btw, albeit I felt our 'performance' last night did nothing for the integrity of the league or of our club. I can't remember us taking such a small number of fans anywhere in living memory btw. Only 950 made the trip. Says it all, as our away following is amongst the largest in the land.
I was really surprised at that last night as you normally nearly fill the away section at the SOL. I'm in the other end but it really did come as a surprise! Onwards and upwards though
Lasted a little longer then me typing that post - but not much!! Wonder who's next? Big summer for you guys now get the right man in and push for the top end again. I'll be happy with a boring mid table season or 3 or 4 for Sunderland!
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ed-Roberto-Martinez-charge-Goodison-Park.html If this comes off I'd be ecstatic if I were a Blue. Then again, I'm the **** that wanted Martinez before we got Rodgers...
He said he will be here net season , the bit about his future at the club was in relation to extending his contract or not ( the latter is likely IMHO )
He didn't though. He was asked "Do you expect to be here next season" To which he answered Yes. What's he meant to say given there's not been a formal approach for him? No lads I fancy going to Everton after talking to Moshiri on the sly.... We'll see how it pans out, but I think it's far from finished. If there is a formal approach and then he says "Yes" when asked if he's definitely staying, you can draw a line under it. Until then don't count your chickens.
No offence (I'm not even sure which side I'd be offending) but Southampton is about the same level as Everton anyway, except Southampton still have the chance for European football
