I'm not particularly certain we want him for next year if he isn't planning to remain thereafter. Doesn't make a lot of sense for our new plan, for player retention, or for Koeman himself.
I don't think Koeman will leave to join Everton (unless given ultimatum by our Board about a new deal). I do think some of our fans are a little rose coloured with their views. Everton is a big job and an exciting challenge for a manager, possibly for the very reason they've been **** for years. Managers, like footballers have big belief in themselves. I don't understand why a lot of people take a view that recent seasons progress makes us more exciting a job than Everton just because they've not been progressive in recent years. Sure I can understand we'd think our structure is better and we are run very well with a good plan (as TSS' article showed this week), but professional people may (note "may") be more excited by a tough challenge. It is not a crime to see this. It is not treason to say this. Pelletron said "anyone can see" Everton is not a better job.... Well I can see that it would be a very appealing challenge. I'm not saying he'll leave (before people quote Ron today saying he's not going) but I am saying that it is blinkered to not see that the Everton job could be very exciting for a manager. I'm just seeing both sides of the coin.
Yeah, but on the other hand...Everton...Z Cars...Merseyside's lesser club....all a bit crap for a manager of Ron's ability, wouldn't you say? I mean, fair enough if he was desperate, but he's not, is he? Unless he's a big Beatles fan of course.
Everton's only two years removed from 72 points and fifth. Not saying that he's nailed on to leave (de Boer is still favoured, though it has closed sharply), but they aren't exactly perennial midtable strugglers, they're a team that spent several seasons knocking on the door of the top four, and they have resources. Not, dare I say, entirely unlike the team to which our previous manager departed.
I'm clearly saying I don't think he will, I'm just saying I find it odd that some people just dismiss it as not even comparable to the saints Job. I think a manager like Ron is just what they need. They won't get one who has done more than Ron but if I were neutral and a manager, that would be slightly tempting. I left my old job where I had helped us nearly double our turnover and had a comfortable position, to join a company who hadn't had good representation in the UK and were stagnant. I saw it as a challenge that would take me out of my comfort zone and be a hell of a challenge, in the knowledge that success would be seen as a big triumph. * *dont ask me how I feel now
Perhaps he'll go to "sleeping giant" Sunderland. Or multiple trophy winning Aston Villa. Probably not though, eh?
Reports in all the papers this morning that Koeman is 'tempted' by a move to Everton. There's no direct quotes, though. Hopefully it's b*llocks.
He's had two good seasons with Southampton . How much further can he take us ? i can see him leaving this summer , i just didn't think it would be to Everton .
No story here - De Boer favourite, Koeman and others just making up the numbers in skybet list of candidates.
At the end of the day RK will do what's best for RK, whilst Les Reed has to do what's best for Southampton Football Club. My personal opinion is that Everton is not the move RK would leave for. They've gone backwards in the last couple of years, with Stones and Lakaku wanting to leave whoever comes in. LR is in an awkward position as if RK does not sign a new contract we will have uncertainty from the start of the new season, with the media linking him with every job under the sun, which would have a negative impact on the team, and potential new signings in the summer. I think the best we could hope for is for RK to sign a 1 year extension, giving the club a bit of stability for the coming season, if not LR has a big decision to make. Get rid of RK and get in a RDB or Cocu, to continue with our progress? Good luck Les.
Two transitional seasons full of long term injuries, just think what he can do with the continuity of a settled squad with a full pre season.
