Scotty Parker has agreed a contract extension, keeping him at the Club until the summer of 2017. Based on his performances and the number of consecutive games he's put in over the last couple of months, Scotty seems to get on with Slavi. And we do need a Captain we is tune with the Boss.
Strange one for me. Most expensive wage earner on the books probably bar Metro & Steke, is given a extension!!!!. Can only think he took it to do his badges while giving cover in emergencys and help out coaching??? Sorry but Scott is part on the problem, not the solution.
Tend to agree with your last sentence SuperBri. Scotty was quite inspired in a few of our last games but there's no doubting he slows things down far too often. Arguably he could still make it next season in a midfield of 3, if he's got young legs either side of him. But even that doesn't sit well with the pacy team with width that Slavi allegedly wants. We know he spent a fair bit of time towards the end of 2015/beginning of 2016 doing his coaching badges at St Georges but don't know where he is in completing them. He also spent a bit of time with the Academy players. However think that was more to do with his 'badge proficiency' than in an official capacity. Whatever, can't see Slavi involving him at the senior level in preference to the two he brought in with him. On Scotty's wages. As mentioned before he came on the (alleged) £75k per week because that was the only way we could afford him at a time when MAF wasn't for putting in any capital and didn't give hoot any longer about the revenue implications. Nobody outside of the Club knows if Parker took a cut when we got relegated but when he signed on (under Jol) writing that sort of clause into contracts wouldn't have been the norm. May be significant that this latest signing is an extension to and not a new contract. So, it is a bit of a surprise. My take is still that it's motivated because of presence as Club Captain and would expect him to also take on an 'Ambassadorial' role.
I think one of our biggest mistakes when coming down from the Premiership was getting rid of virtually the whole 1st team squad. For next season I hope that we keep hold of our young potential, recruit in to strengthen our defence and recruit in options in the midfield and wide players. I think Parker is good for our younger player's development. Danny Murphy's legs were going in the last season he played for us but boy did we miss him when we let him go. Parker may not play as much next season but I think he is an asset to have around.
C58 you're correct, the problem I have with Parker is the defensive players saw him as their out-ball, all an opposition manager has to do was isolate him, and there were lots of time he lost the ball, he was also part of the problem of a slow build-up from the back. But to be fair to him he only came back from injury in the end of November, so we were already playing slow possession football. You are right Fulham COYW we needed to keep a core or spine to build the youngsters around. I hoping that we keep Madl and play him in the role of Defensive Midfield.
