The Planning Committee have announced that they're recommending approval of this 33ft monstrosity at next weeks council meeting, despite numerous objections. Is there anyone at all who thinks it's a good idea? please log in to view this image
Does it have a hole in it to collect cigarette tabs as that's what you see mostly where it's going to be located
Isn't that where the William Wilberforce monument used to be? I would much prefer that. This modern design would look fine in a sculpture park but not there.
I agree, but I'm guessing moving that monument will cost more money than just making something new there.
It's close, but Wilberforce used to in front of the building next to the Prinny Quay entrance... please log in to view this image
You would think they could come up with something that reflects the City's famous and history, like a statue of Mick Ronson & Trevor Bolder.
Yeah it would but therein lies part of the problem - the "that'll do" attitude rather than doing it properly.
The cost of moving the Wilberforce monument back was quoted as £1.6m. I think we're paying £300k for the massive cheese grater.
Does it have light effects? To work there it would need to 'do' something as a crowd puller, otherwise it's in the wrong place.
Ppl are going to wedge allsorts of **** between the gaps of this. And whose going to clean out the centre of It , as It fills up , like a giant trashcan.?
Considering the setting, I'd have thought a nod to the dock or walls would be a better idea, or even a well thought out water feature could work. Not this though, it just looks stupid.
I think a better option would be an Iwo Jima inspired sculpture of John Hotham and his men telling King Charles where he can go.
Pointing to the isle of Wight. This would be a lot better idea. Most people dont know about the events that started the english civil war. It never got mentioned at school to my knowledge
