Serious question. I've read hundreds if not thousands of pages about Hillsborough over the years. Watched every tv coverage there as been too. However... When it becomes apparent that people are being crushed and the game was stopped, why are fans not encouraged to exit the pen the way they came in? Via the tunnel. Was the tunnel closed once fans were in? Or did this actually happen but it was impossible for enough people to get out in time? I always thought the 96 crushed were nearer the front until Sundays documentary so never thought about this before.
Note that tonight's game has had the kick off delayed until 8.30pm. Presumably, using Glazerfodder's logic, the United fans were too pissed to turn up on time?
I know from a workmate who was in that tunnel that it was like the Black Hole of Calcutta. Luckily for him, his mate pulled him back from throng just in time. He still says that thirty seconds later and he wouldn't have got out. His mate had been there the year before and 'Just had a bad feeling about it'. Saved his life, that fit of vapours did.
What happened at Upton Park was well out of order. Manc players could have been injured and some fans were, but what was that bus doing there, anyway? Another example of chaotic planning. By the way, before anyone jumps on me, I'm not likening it to what happened at Hillsborough and the Eamonn Holmes thing, just thought the chaos was a bit mind-jerking last night
The fact that you had to clarify that is sad, really, really sad. You cannot even say the word anymore. I feel sorry for Wednesday fans. SW should change the name of its stadium to be honest. I wouldn't want, every time my stadiums name is mentioned, to be associated with that clusterfuck.
i dont!!!!! they was too quick like the rest of the country to jump on the band wagon of blaming our fans and to this day a lot of them refuse to believe what we now know really happened, and they knew like everyone else it was bull and a cover up, and if they was losing an argument brought a totally unrelated tragedy into the conversation!. so yeah you carry on feeling sorry for them, but pretty please with a ****ing cherry on top dont do it on this forum!!!.
They should just change the name of their stadium is all. When anyone says Hillsborough they instantly think of the disaster, rather than just the stadium.

Couldn't agree less. IMO, that would be the club running away from it. As Heysel changed it's name? What about Bradford's ground? It is what it is. Changing the name of the stadium won't change what happened or people perspective of the venue!
Couldn't agree more, all Liverpool supporters( including those not involved, not there and those not even born at the time)were and still are smeared with the deaths of the 39 Juve fans at Heysel and LFC as a club also have been burdened with the blame ever since. It was proven at the inquests that SWFC never had a valid safety certificate for their Stadium and that they never took the advice of safety experts on the subject of specifications for the safe use of barriers on the terracing were the crush occurred. Why should that club enjoy the anonymity of what happened just because it might cause embarrassment to their supporters?, their club along with SYP, SYMAS denied any responsibility for their part in the deaths for 27 years. Stigmas rightly or WRONGLY stick as we as supporters of LFC know only too well so what goes around etc etc.
We, of all people, should understand and feel the injustice of being tarred with the same brush. I would never attach any blame to anyone who was not directly involved in either the incident itself, or the mindless or malicious accusations that followed. As a Liverpool fan I for years have carried the stigma of blame for both Heysel and Hillsborough incidents, amongst some brainless individuals. I was neither responsible for nor directly involved in either and equally horrified by both, and I resent the implications thoroughly. With that in mind, I don't think it's fair at all that innocent supporters of SW should somehow be expected to collectively carry the can for others. However, we rarely change the names of places where tragedies have occurred and I don't see the need now. The names often serve as a memorial for incidents that people should be reminded of occasionally. As someone once said, those who are ignorant of history are doomed to repeat it. The stigma attached to the name may be a problem for SW supporters (I don't really know what they themselves think), but I'd expect all right thinking people to be able to draw a clear distinction between the blameless and the blameworthy, and not just make all guilty through association.
i get your point saint and agree to a point, but sadly a lot of the wednesday fans are still in denial to this day and always bring up a separate incident when they are losing an argument, they have hid behind what we have been tarnished with all these years, same as the dirty dirty ****ing dirty SY police have done!
Those that are doing that should be condemned, of course. I'm just wary of blaming a whole group of people for the actions of some of them. This is what we have suffered from for the 30 years since Heysel. It was the guilt through association over Heysel that led in part to the acceptance by the general public of the lies and deceit by the authorities over Hillsborough. It was the perception that we were all hooligans looking for trouble that made them unsympathetic and open to the horrible lies put forward by SYP. I don't know how old you are, but I remember full well the "common knowledge" throughout the media that all football fans are animals to be herded and kept away from "decent" people. This perception was made by extrapolating the anti-social activities of a cretinous minority to include all of us who just loved the game. No matter how much it hurts, or perhaps because of it, I think we should recognise this injustice and not repeat it. I just try to take people as I find them as individuals.
And how has that worked out for Liverpool fans in the last 27 years? There would have been no need for this inquest and 27 years of investigation, were that the case.
i was 21 yesterday ok add 20 you batard sadly you have those facts the wrong way round in its a minority that are the decent ones among them, and a lot of them dont want to hear the truth as they think its a slur on their club, and so understandably to a POINT!! only to a point, are in defence of their club, when they like the rest of the country should realize this is a win for the WHOLE football community and a 2 fingered salute to the establishment(police mps, coroners etc etc and media that have done their damnest over the years for the truth never to be heard.
I understand you. Chelsea fans have had this **** for the last couple of years because of twatty behaviour from some of our so called "fans" like the Paris train incident. Its frustrating as hell. I can't even imagine what kind of bullshit Liverpool fans got because of Hillsborough.
I only know a couple of Wednesday fans - extended family members- and I've never talked to them about it. It seems odd to me that the majority would think that way, unless they are somehow taking an aggressive/defensive stance over the part their club played in it? However, I won't pursue a point on a serious subject when I don't have the relevant facts so I'll leave it there. Happy birthday for yesterday, btw.
yep, and a lot of it comes down to the club you support rather than what ACTUALLY happened, or the TRUTH in our case
sorry bodanki, probably wrong choice of words in truth, what i mean by that was on our behalf not yours obviously you know more than me about paris situation football is a lot of tribalism and always will be, i know a lot of chelsea fans and have mates who are chelsea fans and they are all good lads, but i dont like the club, probably the same for our club as well (even the dodgy ones, no names lol, but members of the national front etc) same as i know decent west ham fans, but a lot of them are hardcore head ****s lol. but end of the day, we all love our footie
