Koeman hopes that Virgil is just the first to sign an extended contract....I'm hoping that we will be drip fed them so that a marker is laid for the summer. Also means that the club will have a very good idea of any problem areas where we will need to strengthen if players don't sign. We need most of the team tied down and paid handsomely, so that we achieve stability.

Sounds like we've got it sorted, then.

Praet/Tielemans (Belgian)
Vilhena, Tete/Diks (Dutch)
Chamberlain (British)

That's a right back (Tete/Diks), an attacking central midfielder somewhat in the Davis mold (Vilhena), and two winger/striker-ish/anywhere upfront players (Chamberlain, Preat/Tielemans).

I think we need a token US backup keeper, because every team should have one and we need to replace Cropper. So I nominate Bill Hamid.

That should do it.

I think we should sign Mark Schwarzer - he seems to have a nose for signing for the right teams at the right time.

What about the GK situation? If he wanted to stay, would you keep Stek as back up? I saw his stats on SaintsWeb and they weren't that bad, but he doesn't give the confidence that Forster does. Are we being realistic to expect a better GK than Stek as a back up who may hardly play?

Real Sociedad have reportedly discussed terms with Juanmi. It seems certain that he is going...has never really suited us or settled in. Everyone makes mistakes....best thing is to recoup some money and let the player move on.
The OP needs updating with this. It's meant to be for only €2m. I posted a link a few weeks ago and can see this happening.

In other news The Sun says West Ham have bid £20m for Walcott.

I'd try and keep Stek. He did a decent job in the first half of the season and I think he's a level above our other back up keepers. In fact, he's possibly one of the top five or six back up keepers in the Premier League.

Agreed - as few changes as possible providing individuals are happy.

Leicester, West Ham and others I expect us to be competing with next season will be spending big money this summer I reckon and a settled squad, with a small number of carefully picked additions, would put us in a great position heading into next season - continuity for once would be bloomin' marvellous.

Renato Sanches for €35m

They also sign Mats Hummels for another €35m.

Bayern spending big already.

Yeah. Bit of a shame, but best wishes, and all that. Watching some great matches from last season reminded me that I wished we'd kept Elia. Odd that we signed a player who wasn't really suited, but let go of a player who hit the ground running.

Am I right in thinking that sell on clauses work using a percentage of profit model and that previous clubs only make money when selling clubs do so at a profit?
I am sure I read it somewhere, but have just googled it and can't find anything...
I only mention it, because I see that (at the price quoted) Liverpool would be making a loss.

Wow that's a lot of money for an 18 year old. Wonder if he's a youtube player.
