    It comes from having the privilege of seeing nearly all the games in the flesh. I have been able to see the writing on the wall for a long time -- and, in fact, on the day I posted my 'prediction', I was coming back on the coach from an away game. I told Peter Lloyd that we wouldn't finish in the top 8 (not the 7 I stated here ). He gave me a funny look - as if to say I was mad..........Yes, I know he's right.

    I don't think the injuries have any relevance, our best run of results since the new year have been without Egan and Dack. For me Jed is 100% responsible for "tinkering" with the formation and refusing to except when he has got it wrong.

    I don't think GFC fans have ever recovered from the humiliation of the Man City play-off final. And for many years after we had to suffer the taunts from opposing fans about how we 'mucked it up.'
    Now we'll be subjected to even more embarrassment - as our 'friendly' Millwall fans were keen to remind us ;
    " Top of the league, and you mucked it up."

    Back in the 2014/15 season, PT had 25 points from our first 23 games, fans were up in arms and his head was being called for.
    2015/16 season and Jed has 25 points from the last 23 games.

    Just thought it was interesting.

    grumpygit ( I could be in danger of agreeing with you )
    Let'a analyse your stats a little closer ;
    In those 23 games, we gained 23 of the aforementioned points in the 'first' 16 games of that 'run'. Now, that's not too bad (about 64 points over a whole season )
    but - only 2 points from our last 7 games ( about 15 points pro rata for a whole season ).
    It's a fanciful way to say we've been excrement.

    Always,
    Just to add to the figures, the last 23 games of Hess seniors spell, earned 32 points from 23 games, he was all but hounded out of the job.

    Oh well - it looks like that we can safely 'un' sticky this thread - we probably won't need it for next season. That's not a prediction !
    And if JE can't understand where he has gone (continues to go ), wrong, then we 'll need a 'relegation' thread in August ---- one of these days I'm going to be wrong !

    This thread should not close without Grumpy getting a round of applause for stating the b obvious. Chasing out PT, who was doing a fantastic job with a bunch of rookies improving month by month was criminal. From 1 Nov 14 to 31 Dec, Gills lost just two league games and reached the Regional Final of the Paintpot. Unfortunately they played Bristol City twice who were rampant (once in the Cup) and that allowed PS the excuse to placate the dimwits in the Medway Stand who were hollering at PT.
    The excellent progress from Nov and Dec was continued in Jan and Feb under Hessy (even though we had to pretend it was a gang of four) before this highly satisfactory work in progress was passed to JED for him to try and claim credit for the good work of his predecessors. The jury is now able to reach a verdict on who had the know how over the last two seasons.
    I do not advocate the departure of JED. Clubs who stick with a manager who is learning always do better than the hire and fire approach. So long as relegation does not beckon too early he should be given a couple of seasons to build something and learn about man management.
