They (the Southampton company union men) call us Skates, which is yet another term they nicked from us, as sailors have been called Skates in Pompey before football was invented.
Was it not a reference to shagging skates though? (not that I believe for a moment that you have shagged a fish mate)
Yes that was what Portsmouth folk used to say about sailors who went on more than a long fishing trip. They'd get bonked on the head by the press, down at the point (Old Portsmouth now) then within a couple of weeks be up to the nuts in Skate guts. A typical Summers day deyn the point, or Spice Island as it's known now. please log in to view this image
That's just like Gunwharf Quays when the sales are on. I like sitting on the bench outside the Jack Wills outlet with a cream horn.
If you look to your left from there that's the Point. If you tire of Gunwharf it's worth a visit. please log in to view this image
That is a great question, Simon. Even though it isn't aimed at me, I shall give you my opinion anyway. I reckon if Newcastle and Norwich have more points than the other teams then they should bounce straight back up.
It was more of a question of are they capable of amassing more points than the other 22 Teams? Iain . In I pop ?
Not sure depends on Ashley, does he sell everyone to get wage bill down or keep them, you don't know with him.Shelvey rumoured to be on 80k a week and players will probably want to leave if anyone wants them that is.All in all a clusterfuck of a season. As for Norwich,I'd say they have a chance because they'll keep most of their players and add a few kickers because it's a tough league to get out of.
No, Simon, you aren't popping in anywhere, I just didn't understand your question. Are they capable of bouncing straight back up? Hmmmm, another great question, Simon. I think they are capable but it will all depend on if they end up with more points than the other teams.
I doubt Newcastle have relegation clauses built in because they don't expect to go down where as all our players take a 50% wage cut. Our best players like Klose who only played a few games before getting injured will probably not stick around the same with Redmond and Brady they will probably get sold off leaving us with a pretty average side. We can probably poach some of the better Championship players and blood a few youth players .
