So sky have bought the rights to F1 with the BBC only showing half the races. There'll be no sprt left on tell except Wimbledon. Or worse, table tennis!

The thing that I found strange was that a couple of weeks ago all the teams were saying that F1 would/should stay on free tv.

Does this mean that the BBC commentary team will go over to sky, as the BBC only has 1/2 of the races and does not show qualifying. I just hope there are no adverts during races like there was on ITV's coverage

Cut backs perhaps? Odd that two broadcasters could show the same sporting event at the same time. Usually only cup finals.

Probably - they should just ditch BBC3 to cut money. The only thing worth watching on that channel is Family Guy.

Sorry Brastov, but I'd rather watch ping pong than road cycling :emoticon-0113-sleep

This is bad news I think for F1 a lot of viewers aren't "the sporty type" and won't want to pay for Sky sports just for F1 or even everyone else that doesn't have sky/sky sports. Also it's going to be a pain having adverts when it's shown on Sky.

BBC should of found the money for this, surely there are rubbish drama's and things that don't get the figures they could of cut. Eastender's get rid of that drivel. Disappointing.

i think F1 will go the same way as cricket. it hit its highs when it was on channel 4 and everyone had access. then sky bought it and it went down the pan.

You got me! Am disgusted at this decision to put it on Sky, as an F1 fan you need to watch live races to get a true feel for what's happening. I can't afford Sky and am not paying out for it so essentially I'm screwed, BBC has half the live races but there will be no continuity and the standard of coverage will not be the same, there's no way Sky won't be grabbing the best presenters. I wouldn't pay for Sky on principle anyway that you are helping enrich the Murdochs, whether thats a
naive view I'm not sure but plenty of other people seem to share it so seems like it might be a valid one.

Also look at at all the crap they show on BBC, househunting shows, the World Swimming Championships, womens golf, why don't they cut some of this down and pay for F1. get rid of BBC4 and the stuff on there, a history of caravans and that kind of rubbish! Rant over anyway :steam:

Really disappointed with this, just as F1 was getting interesting to watch.

Right! Sky financing a professional cycling team is not coming from the kindness of their heart. It costs a helluva lot, but is an INVESTMENT. When/if cycling gets to be popular, Sky will stitch it up like they do with all sports.

Illegal streams = the answer! :emoticon-0103-cool:

Is this the tip of the iceberg and are the BBC planning to withdraw totally from all sports coverage over the next few years? I heard one BBC commentator stating that the BBC could not afford the high fees associated with showing live sporting events and would in future concentrate its efforts to produce those programmes it does best (and he said better than anyone else) i.e. the news and cheap soaps.
