the lad made a comment, he did not think it was racist, others did. he said sorry and it was over, but it still goes on and we wonder how wars start.

You will never agree so why not agree to dissagree.

To be fair I probably won't let her go out with anyone. Unless it's a girl so I can watch.

Seriously though, I'm getting her a chastity belt and putting the key in a time-operated locked box, set to open on her 21st birthday.

It's prejudices like yours that create all these divides and tensions.

The Norway attack has proven that you can't just assume that all terrorists will be 'foreigns'. The age of consent remark was down to your example, at what point would you let your 13 year old girl date people anyways? Unless you mean when she's older, but that completely disproves your point.

The '****ed' stuff is my opinion on views like that <ok>

No. It's being sensible, like I said. Would you trust a gypsy as readily as a local person? If you were on holiday in the Dominican Republic or Mexico, would you avoid advice and go outside the complex at night? Despite how dangerous it can be? Be honest and stop trying to appear "right-on".

Some prejudices are justified and can protect you. I don't give a **** about stopping divides and tensions, all I care about is protecting my family. If I only had myself to look after like you, maybe I could afford to be more open-minded.

The Norway attack was an exception. There are many more terrorist attacks foiled due to the fact that our security services are racially motivated, they are more suspicious of Muslims. If they treated everyone the same, there would be more attrocities. There was more suspicion of the Irish back when the IRA were at their most prolific. I answered your comment re my daughter in my post to Stereo.

1 - By stopping divides and tensions, you'll be protecting your family <ok>

2 - No it wasn't. There will always be crazy people from any race/country/profile, look at Moat or any of the examples of attacks on civilians in America. You can't just say that by concentrating on Muslims you're going to have less attacks.

3 - So you admit that the point about your daughter was bullshit. <ok>

To defend Jip, I've always felt that prejudice and suspicion of people different from ourselves is part of the human condition, something that's been with us since we first started walking upright on the plains of Africa all those 100,000s of years ago and possibly even before that.

It's what stops us from getting into dangerous situations. It's the reason white people get scared if we're on holiday in say, New York, and we take a wrong turning and end up in an area populated by black people. And vice versa.

Of course, we like to kid ourselves on that we can overcome such basic fears and we often do but prejudice is part of us whether we like it or not. If I get on a bus and go upstairs and there's a crowd of shaven-headed mutants covered in swastika tattoos and wearing Union Jack t-shirts I'm not thinking "don't judge these people by the cover". I'm thinking "thank God I'm not wearing my old Free Nelson Mandela t-shirt!"

That's the difference though. Some people on this planet are ****ed, but you have to deal with it on a case-by-case basis. You wouldn't then go on to be scared of all white people.

Categorising people by the colour of their skin is never justifiable <ok>

    1. Yeah, OK, I'll make friends with the gypsies that turn up and have them round for tea. It doesn't matter if they get pissed up and start fighting or the Nintendo DS goes missing. And I'll let my daughter hang around with the Asian gangs that have been operating in Manchester recently (as seen on the BBC no less), tricking young girls into prostitution and drugs.

    2. You need to tell MI5 about this. They seem to think that the main terror threat these days comes from the Middle East, which makes sense when you consider that we've been at war with 2 Muslim nations in the last decade. But no, we need to have less people looking for Al Qaeda cells and more looking for lone-wolf nutters like Breivik, who apparently are rampant these days.

    3. No, my point was that I'd be more wary of an older boy from certain cultures - not just Asians, when Brazilian footballer Kleberson arrived at Man United he had a 14 year old wife in tow.

    Thankyou Stereo.

Toby's idealism is unrealistic in today's world. But Toby can afford to be this way, if he gets himself into a ****ty situation due to being overly-idealistic, he only has himself to worry about. I have a family to look after and have to also look after myself so that I'm there for them. Hence if I was confronted by a couple of black lads while I'm out, though the fighter in me would want to stand up for myself and take them on, the responsible side of me would make me want to get out of there, as statistically I'm more likely to be stabbed or even shot by a black youth than a white one in Manchester. And I don't think my idealistic embracing of all cultures would be much of a consolation to my family if I was six feet under.

1 - Yep, I definitely said that you should let people into your house that you don't trust, that was exactly my point. So you're implying that every young person that's not white is in a gang?

    Cut the bullshit exaggerations <ok>

2 - My point was that victimising Muslims isn't going to keep us safe. That's what you were implying.

3 - Most teenagers would try to shag anything, look at the Jeremy Kyle show. You said that the fact they were from a different culture made you uneasy, why's that?
