This is the 4th relegation I've endured as a Newcastle fan - and just like the others we'll all still be here next year. Like Pouchy has been saying, it's not the end of the world. It still hurts like hell though. That never diminishes no matter how often it happens.

They need to go, but as long as MA is at the helm we will almost certainly replace with similar.

Doesn't hurt as much as the others, for me, due to the inevitability of it all. Sunderland stay up instead, meh, if they pulled the finger out for a whole season they could one day do a Leicester.

The last few seasons have been an abortion. Horrible, messy and mostly self-inflicted. I couldn't cope going every week through all that ****, so gave up my season ticket. There was no hope. But in the championship, it's real. There are less of the quiet boring people who don't chant. There is hope...

The problem was appointing Rafa rather than trying to prepare for it though. We'll suffer a bad start pretty much guaranteed now.

We'll have to agree to disagree on Rafa. To me, you never give up while there is still reasonable hope. I just hope that Rafa lets us know his decision quickly (almost certainly to leave) and that Ashley brings in a progressive manager rather than the usual **** he has gone for in the past.

We've lost a whole load of money, after spending £82 million, players will move on with FFP. Anyone who expects promotion next year under anyone other than Rafa is brain dead, if he goes we will be bottom half again next year. Ashley & Co have killed us. Also feel free to boo Gini on Sunday.

Depending on the financial figures (and I don't know them), if we post a loss over a certain amount we can be fined or docked points under football league rules. Relegation would mean we became subject to those rules and might mean that any player sales might have to go towards minimising losses rather than being re-invested. This time it wouldn't even be Ashley's fault. We wouldn't have a choice. I have no idea what our financial position is, or what the amounts that bring this rule into play are, but it could be something that bites us up the arse.

Our financial position is that we are making substantial profits and all the player sales this year were paid for out of cash we had in the bank. Offloading a few of the high earners and reducing the wage bill would cushion the huge drop in revenue, as would the parachute payments, and I agree some of the money from sales would probably be used to keep us in the black. The FFP in the Championship is you can make a £39m loss over a rolling 3 year period I believe. I'm not sure if our profits over the last 2/3 years would offset that or not. I don't think it's as bad as some people think it would be.

My mistake. There is no provision for docked points. If we get promoted we will pay a fine. If we are not promoted we would receive a transfer embargo. If we are in the championship next season (which looks likely) then any losses over £13 milion would mean we were under a transfer embargo and not allowed to sign any players.

I think we will be ok next year. However, I don't think it matters if they were paid for out of cash in the bank or not. I think our trading over any 3 year period has to be within the limits. However, the rules change next year to allow us to have our FFP calculations based on the league we were in during any given season. This means that we are allowed a loss of £35 million per year over the last 3 years. It will drop to £13 million for the year(s) we are in the championship.

If that happened then it would be the season after. We would have to make the loss first. As per my post above I think the £13m is actually £39m over a rolling 3 year period. Also it takes into account the previous 2 years we were in the Premier League, so thats £35m/season allowed losses for two years and then £13m for the year in the Championship. So after a year in the Championship we would be able to have made a £83m loss in the 2016/17 season without sanctions (since we have made no losses this year or last).

Yes, I don't think there is any way it can affect us directly this coming summer/January. It may affect us indirectly in that MA might limit spending to make sure we do not risk exceeding these limits, knowing that going straight back up is far from guaranteed.

That's not money we've lost exactly though. The players we've bought has been done within our means; they weren't bought on future income.
