Maybe not to lead the line on his own, he's not good enough for be a 1st choice striker (yet). I see him doing a Kuyt type role for us, as a wide forward putting in 100% effort every time he's on the pitch but with that bit more pace. His movement pre-season was pretty decent, running in behind and certainly will put decent pressure on opposition defenders.
On Sturridge...I don't like his display of attitude...I think it smacks of "individual" in a team game..you could name the likes of Ronaldo, Owen or Ibra...does it make them bad players? No.
If their team mates don't care and say "that's just him" then fine as long as they produce the goods.
Sturridge weakness has always been the amount of games he plays in a season. If you have to rely on him it's just not good enough. If you have 2 or 3 other strikers that tick along with goals then it's a great luxury.
We have enough money that if the manager brings in a good enough forward squad Sturridge is a luxury we can afford.
We should however never be in a position where we rely on him to do anything other than change an individual game rather than a season....

That's the thing when people were talking about selling him.
He's our number 1 striker and he scores every 1 1/2 games. If he plays 38 games a season he's going to get us 20-25 goals no question. But unless things change he's only going to play 20 games so only going to get 10-15 goals. Before we didn't really have anyone to play in the other 20 games and get similar numbers and that's been the issue, but it seems like Firm & Origi look to be stepping up and can deputise for him if he is out and get the required goals to make him absence not felt as much
Indeed.
Still tempting though..if someone like PSG did actually come in and offer 40M for him I'd still say sell based on that injury record.
Simply because I trust Klopp to use that money plus kitty to get better over a season. I'd have said no to the sale under Rodgers lol....
However.
For all we know Klopp and his team might handle Sturridge better and get another 10 games a season out of him.
Or...Bring in or as you say develop existing forwards that makes the sale unnecessary...

A few weeks ago, Portuguese newspaper A Bola ran a piece on Rafa Silva to Liverpool. It wasn't their first article on the player going to Anfield, and certainly won't have been the last, but what made it stand out was that A Bola really wanted it to be taken seriously.The newspaper were insistent it wasn't simply a rumour, and they explained Liverpool had made some sort of 'official approach' to sign the young wide player.
Rafa Silva currently plays for SC Braga and he's the main reason an increasing number of scouts have been watching Braga games this season. Labelled sometimes, in the rumour mill way, as the Portuguese Eden Hazard, Rafa Silva is an exciting player who is now ready to take the next step.
After further reports in the Portuguese press this week of interest from Premier League clubs, Sport Witness contacted Rafa Silva's agent and asked for an update.
Antônio Araújo told us: “Our client, Rafa Silva, sees with very good eyes the possibility of playing in the Premier League," Antônio Araújo has told Sport Witness “We are working towards achieving this objective."
The 22 year old quite fancies playing in England, and so will no doubt be thrilled if Liverpool's interest is as strong as A Bola insisted.

Like I said, you can have players who darent speak out or have a personality like Milner or Hendo.
I rather have players who believe they're good enough for bigger clubs, or don't talk about loving the club every 5 minutes.
You clearly didn't understand what I said. There are more than simply those 2 personalities.
not sure i like all these players who come out and say they would like to play in the prem, doesn't make them good enough for one minute, as call me suspicious lol, but are they just interested in the wages they can earn?

Jurgen Klopp has “changed everything” at Liverpool and it is something “you can feel” according to a Reds player who is keen to return to Anfield.
The lure of working with the Reds manager is one of the key factors in loan star Luis Alberto wishing to return to Merseyside.
The 23-year-old has spent this season on loan at Deportivo la Coruna and has managed a successful season which includes six goals and six assists.
The midfielder and his club are still fighting off relegation in La Liga but a point from the last two games will secure their future as they currently sit in 15th place.
But while Deportivo want to keep him, Alberto is very much attracted to the idea of a return to Anfield.
Groin injuries forced him back to Melwood for treatment in November when he got the chance to meet Klopp and his staff, and it’s a relationship he’s keen to foster.
“It is obvious that having Klopp as a manager is an extra motivation to return to Liverpool,” Alberto told IBTimes UK.
“When I was there I could see that he has changed everything, the atmosphere and the club. You can feel it. Everything I heard about him was good. He is transforming Liverpool. Of course I am very excited to work under him, trying to improve and stay in the squad to becoming into an important player for Liverpool.

“I spoke a bit with Klopp, but during the whole season I have been in contact with his staff to see how I am and to follow my evolution.
“Since the arrival of Klopp, the feeling has been positive, they have been in contact with me through one of his assistants and all we have spoken about has been positive.”
Alberto moved to Liverpool in 2013 from the Reds’ Europa League final opponents Sevilla
The 23-year old moved to Liverpool in the summer of 2013 from Sevilla for almost £7m but struggled to make an impact.
He started just two games, FA Cup ties against Notts County and Oldham, and was replaced at half time in the latter, while he made 10 appearances as a substitute.
He was sent on loan to Malaga last year before linking up at Deportivo this season with Victor Sanchez, who was an assistant at Sevilla during his time there.

“I had some minor injury problems earlier in the season but it has been a good year. Thank God I have been able to establish myself in the top flights and play regularly, which was the most important.
“They (Deportivo) have already told me they want to continue, but I don’t know whether this will be a difficult or easy possibility.
“I have to go back to Liverpool and then let’s see what happens. Once the seasons start, Klopp will be the one to take the decision on whether I stay or not. I still have a year left in contract and the club will have to make the decision.
“It is obvious I would love to play in the Europa League and in the Champions League. But I have to wait. Liverpool paid €8m for when I was nobody. That was a big effort. It was a gamble and I have to thank them not only with words but with my football. I feel a little bit in debt with them for giving me the opportunity to play in a historic club.
“The chance to play for a club like Liverpool is not presented to you very often. My experience there was nice, I played with great players and we were almost champions of the Premier League. And playing for Liverpool is a challenge.”
