    He is absolutely brilliant and improving all the time. How nice to have one of our best players commit for a change!
    We can really build something with this squad.

    Tbf, if the initial 5 year contract didn't secure his immediate future with Saints then the word contract doesn't have any meaning. ;)

    Saints posted it in chronological order, but its only just showed on my Twitter timeline, an hour after VvD signed. Because of the Twitter updates to how/when stuff is shown based on how important twitter thinks it is to you

    This hopefully is the first step in my biggest hope for this summer, revamping our wage structure. Hopefully see a few more sign new deals so that we can bring players in on bigger wages and it won't disrupt the harmony in the squad

    Good point - it's a gradual process but VVD deserves to be at the upper end of it. I expect this will take him near to the top.

    Heh. Perhaps I am too cynical, but I do think contracts don t have that much meaning.

    I read VVD's signing less as "VVD commits his next six years to Saints" than "VVD gets raise, to keep him happy for a bit, hopefully through one more season."

    But, I'm still really, really happy with this. And I do think it is a "statement" signing that we will try to keep our best players here, and are willing to spend to do it. And it is also a good sign that everyone is on the same page and happy that VVD signed so quickly and with no drama, even before seeing what shakes out in the summer.
