My two eldest daughters joined their 6th form about 1988. My youngest daughter was in the pre school in 1998. Did your dad work with a chap called Ron Weymouth at that time? He was an excellent builder.

"The idea of one EU state, one vision... was an illusion, there is no point pursuing an ideal of a European nation, what is needed is political common sense"

    European Council President Donald Tusk.

When you have comments like these, why do people try to make out that the opposite is happening?

'A divine right to control', would you like to enlarge on this comment ? Or do you think that Germans still run around in jackboots ? Coming from a representative of a nation which had the biggest empire ever seen this sounds rather strange. Do you think that all of the people who broke away from that empire - whether Malaysia, India, Kenya whatever were all more nationalist than the English themselves ? If so you are deluding yourself. Everyone has the right to self determination - even if they are poorer in the process.

Jean-Claude Juncker and his fellow cronies have a completely different agenda, their sights are firmly set on creating a European superstate. He correctly realises that is the only way the Euro area can survive. Unless fiscal and political union is achieved the days are numbered for the Euroland. The fact that nobody else wants this outcome is only a mere distraction which should continue to be ignored.

The germans no longer need to run around in jackboots because they have already achieved the original objective by peaceful economical means. Last week Merkel was at last rebuked by the ECB for trying to openly dominate proceedings for the sole benefit of Germany.

I could have added; Mr Juncker - a former Prime Minister of Luxembourg - said the old "shared sentiment" of common policy-making in the EU "has totally gone".

I don't think you want to hear what they say.

I don't believe what they say which is quite different.

You fail to understand the economics of the Euro. To make it work they must have fiscal and political union or else the present problems with southern European countries will persist. I understand the Greeks cannot pay their next instalment. You also have the ever widening financial state between France and Germany.

Don't forget these are the people that force countries to have another referendum if they don't like the original outcome.

I think you are living in the past. It has become clear that individual countries within the EU have their own needs and ways of organizing their economies, otherwise we would not see the differences between the success or failure of different models. These differences are now being taken into account and the EU is moving to a different way of working. Some of those in the UK seem to believe that there could be a second referendum, but that is clearly not the case. I think I would rather read and understand what is changing than follow the numpties who chose Goldsmith to stand for London Mayor.

A document signed last September in Rome by the speakers of the national parliaments in Germany, France, Italy and Luxembourg calls for the creation of a full blown 'federal union of states'.
This paper says that ' concrete proposals' to deepen EU integration will be drawn up at a meeting in Luxembourg next month.
The joint declaration states:' We are convinced that new impetus must be given to European integration. We believe that more, not less, Europe is needed to respond to the challenges we face. It says that deeper intergration 'should not be limited to the field of economic and fiscal union.

How clear does it have to be for those of you being dragged along against your will?

Do you never cease talking through your **** ? You seem to be implying here that Germany has no other objective than dominating Europe and are, through economic means, simply finishing off what Hitler started. Germany recovered from the ashes of World War 2 partly through it's own work and partly because of the help of the Western allies - the country does not forget this, and there is no country in Europe which is more enthusiastic about Britain remaining in the EU. than Germany is (and this is not for economic reasons). Germany's rise to economic success was based on the idea that only through affluence in the centre of Europe could the future rise of radical politics be hindered - the Germans have a pathalogical fear of poverty, because they have seen where it can lead. Germany is the largest payer in, into the EU. Most Germans wish that this were not the case, and it was by no means Germany's intention that this should be the case - but it is so, and nobody could reasonably suggest that the largest payer would not have a proportionate influence. There is nothing that Germans would like more than for their own country, France and the UK. to have equally successfull economies and equal influence.

How funny you should quote that. It was reported here and ridiculed. That sounds rather desperate UKIP nonsense.

What a daft choice Goldsmith was in a city that is naturally a home banker for Labour. He may be a decent chap but choosing a multi millionaire was never going to work. Although Boris was also rich his wacky character won him through against the dour Livingstone.

By your argument independence for Yorkshire, Independence for Cornwall you name it where does it end? Scotts have helped form what is the United Kingdom, they've governed they are not a separate race! Its very different to the empire cases of conquered sovereign nations and you well know it! Last time jackboots were mentioned you took offence, do't raise again no I do not think germans use jackboots, I happen to like the german people but if you do notr believe they like the Brits have a superiority complex then you are wrong, we and the Germans are very similar in that respect but the time for controlling alien nations is over (Scotland is not a distinct nation any more than Yorkshire is). Yes we have the right to self determination and we voted to stay part of the UK, its not a thing to be reperated ad hoc with the risk of a moment in time freak result changing the course of history. We voted to stay as a united kingdom and thats how it is and must be....

I do not disagree with most of your reply. They do however dominate Europe with their hands firmly on the purse strings. They will also maintain this domination at all costs.

Ridiculed by those fools who want to see no evil, hear no evil.

By putting your heads in the sand you are just strengthening the right wing in each country.

Who was it who ridiculed it then? You must know or you could not have said that.

What Juncker and his merry band want makes complete financial sense. A common European government which has total control over tax raising, and freedom to spend in required areas is vital if the Euroland is to continue let alone flourish. If that scheme is rejected by the populous then a gradual break up is the only alternative.

If the UK leaves the EU, it will cause a split sooner rather than later. If the remain group keep us in the EU I believe there will be another referendum within a few years due to the ever closer union demands of the eurocrats.

I'm not saying that every place should be able to declare complete independence at the drop of a hat, but am rather arguing that we should be decentralizing power from Westminster through the strengthening of regional government. I live in the state of North Rhine Westphalia and pay my taxes to the state capital in Düsseldorf (not to Berlin) and we also have a minister president of NRW (Hannelore Kraft). I know that this sort of federalized system is not what the British are used to, but, imo. it works better than an overcentralized one. I believe that you are wrong in saying that Scotland is not a distinct country (simply because they are not racially different). What is your definition of a distinct country ? Scotland, Catalonia, the Basque region, Brittany have all been separate countries at one time - is it any wonder that a region like Brittany strives for independence when posters in schools there (within living memory) stated that it was forbidden to 'spit, or speak Breton`.
