Yes, and my candidate lost by less than 400 votes. Two lots of results to come later and over the weekend.

Winchester - Awaiting results. The suspense is killing me. I'd only heard of one candidate though. And only because he lives in the same village as me and is a current councillor, never actually seen him in person.

Not good for Labour. However they spin it, it's an extremely sub par performance for an opposition party.

In the South, only 25% of the voters turned out in Southampton. Sadly, that indicates so many things about people and democracy in the 21st century. Even in the South's best area, only 42% bothered to make a positive contribution.

Yes people really can't moan about their councils if they don't bother to vote.

I voted. And my candidates lost. Expected though in Tory strongholds.

Rubbish night and morning for Labour in Scotland, and in most councils - even if it isn't as bad as some were predicting.

Opposition parties should not be losing seats at local elections.

I'm pleased to say it doesn't appear to have done Sadiq Khan any harm in London.

Keeping things in perspective, I hope. Ie, Khan is the best guy for the job (imo) and clearly not anti-semitic, and neither, apart from a couple of idiots, is the Labour Party. Khan's religion doesn't matter to the electorate any more than Goldsmith's, despite all the noise in the media and elsewhere.

Exactly. There's a good argument for making voting compulsory (like Australia, Belgium and some other countries). You are allowed to spoil your vote if you don't agree with any candidate, but you must make an effort to actually get off your arse and vote. Otherwise you get fined.
That would stop people complaining about councils, politicians, parties, etc ............... Don't vote? Then shut the **** up about who governs you .............

That would be better because it would indicate that everyone is automatically enrolled on the voting register, which has to be better than people being asked to register.
