Well you're going to have to trust me Archers that a modern bookie doesn't always 'hedge' a position. Besides, it's not really possible to 'hedge' a position you hold on a 5000/1 shot which continually shortens (unless you want to lock in a loss).

Yep, you could argue the bookies mis-priced it to begin with, or didn't react quick enough regards that price dropping sooner, leading to more bets and a bigger liability. But, the reality is that big bookmakers will lay the odds as they see them, not just based on the liability they hold at any given time. They'll get it wrong at times and lose money.

It's also important to distinguish the difference between 1 betting market (where we can win or lose just as easily) and overall performance. Bookies all lost on the the Premier League Winner market, but does that mean they've lost on the Premier League as a whole on the season including all the individual matches, no.

If you took this weekend's Premier League fixtures as an example, in each of these games we currently hold at least one selection (home/draw/away) in each as a loser. That will be the same as all the other established European bookmakers. It's a results driven industry.

I have the same problem on my Windows 7 laptop. They play ok on the Twitter site it's just when they are posted on here. I have discovered however that if I open up this site on Chrome instead of Internet Explorer that they play fine. :emoticon-0138-think

Jeez, you use IE and Chrome.?

Look, be sensible. If you are able to [not work computer etc..], use Mozilla Firefox, with a nice adblocker add-on like Ad-block Plus. Have Ghostery as another add-on and set it so that it allows Facebook and Twitter feeds through. Result will be the best browser you've ever used, no adverts of any kind unless you want to see them, no tracking of your internet movements, and any Facebook or Twitter video you wish to see. Try it. I promise you it's better than what you're using. Certainly better than the awful Chrome, which provides Google with so much data on you, you would not believe it. Google's search engine is excellent. But let that be the limit of their involvement.

IE is just a little outdated these days. If you have Win10 then Windows Edge browser is fun, if a little
peculiar to use. Plus you don't get the ace add-ons that Firefox enjoys.

And having a huge payout every so often is great for bookies in the long term, because it keeps people interested.

Playing catch up here, but it was interesting to hear an interview with a member of the Leicester City supporters club prior to their match against Manchester United and the behaviour of supporters in the Leicester area..... they were ditching their United or Chav shirts in favour of Leicester City ones. Just imagine if Saints won the PL? You would see a dearth of United, Liverpool and United tops in the South Hampshire area for a couple of seasons at least, maybe longer if the success was sustained.

Yes, good point. They seem to have done fairly well in the PR department as well.

There will be no action taken against Érik Lamela, who appeared to step on Cesc Fàbregas’ hand while the Spaniard was on the ground, as the officials did see that particular incident.

If they did saw it, why haven't they done anything about it? In their place I would rather pretend i haven't seen, than admit complete incompetence by saying I saw it, but did nothing.

How awful? Stepping on Cesc's hand!! IMO Cesc is a little sh**!! A few seasons ago he feigned an injury which saw Arteta unjustly sent off when playing for Arsenal against Everton!!!

Whatever his past actions, he certainly didn't look as though he was feigning that one, so I don't think your personal opinion of him should count in your judgement on one isolated incident, do you.?

For one thing I've had my hand stepped on by a player's studded boot, and I can tell you it's bloody painful and you can easily acquire a broken finger from it. And that player didn't know until he'd done it.

From the footage I've seen I don't think Lamela went out of his way to step on Fabregas's hand. He just looked to me as if he wasn't paying attention. Which can be a Lamela thing, so I'm led to believe.

Perhaps they realised that it wasn't malicious.?

He knew what he was doing. He even flicked back with his foot afterwards.

He's got away with one there.

Interesting article about sports science that Leicester have used this year.

On a seperate but just as interesting note it was 8 years ago yesterday that they were relegated to League 1.... 8 years later, Champions of England <yikes>
