    NHS Health Checks.
I see they are being considered a waste of time, effort and money, as they don't appear to be having any real impact on the way people live their lives, and because doctors aren't keen on prescribing statins to those that might actually require them.
I had a health MOT, back in February, and as a result was told my cholesterol was edging towards the high side. Since then I have made changes to my lifestyle as a result.
I've made changes to my diet, reducing my intake of bread and pastry (<wah>), replacing it with fruit and yoghurt..
I've also started taking regular walks.
On the positive side, my follow up blood test showed a change for the better, my BP has improved from an average 131/85 to 125/78 and I've lost about 4ins off my waist and stomach.
On the negative side, the walking has revived my previously forgotten arthritis problem, in my right knee, which previously stopped me from jogging 10 years or so ago.

Any other old codgers, on here, who have benefitted from the "free" NHS Health Check.

Beddy. Don't attempt the second question. ;)

I agree with you St Badger. However, there should come a time when a child should know their nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.., but perhaps not at 6 years. At that age teachers should perhaps be ironing out the obvious problems with the spoken language, inherited from their parents, and vocabulary some children have. A little more attention to getting kids to say words in context correctly, for example three, when instead they're saying free. Kids also really shouldn't be making to adulthood still not being aware of the need to pronounce the 'th' sound [unless anatomically they'll unable to], or saying brought when they mean bought, etc.., and all those other obvious instances that are going to pigeon hole them with an employer. We can't all be self-employed. ;)

Me too. Just goes to show how different we all are in our opinions. A bit like that on football, too, eh? :emoticon-0105-wink:

Speaking of series, just recorded all of 11.22.63 (not watched it yet) and started reading the book, I *think* on the recommendation of TSS. Really enjoying it, and a fascinatingly delivered concept.

Book is much better than the series (they usually are in my opinion) - but the series is well done and I enjoyed it too.

Two firemen have won 10K each after putting a bet on Leicester winning the title by mistake....they thought they were betting on the first match result only :)

It was. But I know one of the Journos working on it and be in no doubt, an awful lot of passion and hard work went into launching it. In a different era they'd have had time to adapt and get it right; it was totally the wrong time to attempt a new print title, unless you're giving them away free and clogging up buses and trains in the process.

Oh I've no doubt Archers. As you say though, *very* odd time to try and launch something like that.
