Can adds a physical presence to our midfield that no one else does. Can & Allen in midfield would be my preferred 2. Can helps bring the ball forward as he's one of only midfielders who can carry the ball in the middle.

No one is calling him the saviour... just that he will add something to our midfield and increase the options which at the moment are very limited.

Can and Allen would be my pick at the moment from what you have. I just think Can is too static and often expects others to do what in reality is his job.

Thing is with Allen is he needs to strengthen up. He contstantly gets injuired and this is due to the fact hes light weight and goes fully into challenges. Same with Wilshire.

For some strange reason I see Bayern's game tonight as an Omen for our game. I#ll be a bit more optimistic if Bayern knock out the best defence in europe

Alonso passing is just do class.

I still cannot believe anyone says they'd rather have mascherano (no disrespect to him)

For me alonso was our best player of the naughties not gerrard.

Because Alonso wouldn't have been able to do half the stuff without Mascherano doing all the grunt work and winning the ball back for Alonso to work his magic.

    And vice versa.

In short - we need both! What a great midfield that was.

Not walked. Mascherano bulldozed. Alonso floated.

Maybe that's because he wasn't seen to actually do anything. Workrate is only of any use if you are actually chasing stuff down or making runs into good spaces, just moving around the field is not enough. Before my hip ****ed up I could probably have run around the field for 12k in 90 mins but it would have just been at a steady pace for most of that time.

You had this magical midfield you all wax lyrical about, a good striker, decent defence and legendary manager so why did you never get a league win?
Perhaps you are judging them against what has come since and not your opponents :emoticon-0100-smile

To use your own argument against you...

Running about a lot isn't a good thing. Work rate needs to be applied at the right times.

    PS...I didn't see our game
