Romeu was definitely solid, and looks a quality player. That does 't mean we should be throwing out phrases like clasie "looked a bit lost". That's crazy. The boy played very well. He harries extremely well and his passing is better than Romeu's.

I think Clasie is suffering because he doesn't look like a DM and so some of you can't see it. He didn't lag at all yesterday, but was on a booking, yet his lack of fitness is brought up again. It is less an issue every game. He never once looked lost. He did, thank god, misplace some passes. Why thank god? Because Clasie actually plays some risky balls - which we desperately need. He also goes forward 80 odd per cent of the time.

I am growing into a big fan.

I think what a lot of people are forgetting is that Morgan Schneiderlin wasn't always the great, solid DM with an eye for a 40 yard pass that he was in the last few years with us. He had to learn his trade too, and was fortunate in that his arrival in the first team coincided with our climb up the leagues. Jordy Clasie has had less than a season in the Premier League after playing in the Eredivisie, he didn't get a full preseason with us and he has had a couple of injuries which have held back his development. I've only seen the MOTD highlights from yesterday's game, but in general he has made a lot of progress this season and is definitely one for the future. He certainly is capable of filling Morgan's shoes, maybe next season we'll see him start to flourish.

He did make one exquisite pass yesterday that FLT has referenced. If you watch the highlights, it should be the first play.

I'm happy to say he could get better.

Anyone, know his stats? ie is he running himself into the ground as is being suggested. Compared to Davis he appears quite static to me. Now, Davis wasn't that good early on but always puts himself about and causes problems. The stats could actually prove me wrong.

Sorry, but making one good pass doesn't really prove a point. The opposite in fact.

*sigh* You said all you saw was him making 5 yard passes. I'm just pointing out there was a pass you might have missed. Just trying to help you out, bud.

Tbf, it doesn't prove the opposite. All it proves is that someone made a good pass that you didn't see. :)

Go back and watch the chance where Long hits the side netting at 0-0. By far the best pass of the game and exactly the sort of pass forwards like Long/Mane need. Beautifully creative through ball - maybe we've just been spoiled with too much midfield creativity this season that it went un-noticed <whistle>

Ps. Saw Corky's goal... TSS is going to fix my telly - it didn't seem right :)

When I say "all" I'm not being literal, he did give the ball away a couple of times as well (I'd do a smiley here but my phone won't allow it).

The fact is, I don't think he's a bad player, I don't think he makes mistake after mistake, but I don't think he adds a great deal. I think both Romeu and JWP have looked better.

Good comparison with Morgan Schneiderlin there. By Morgan's own admission, when he first came into the side in 2008, in the Championship, he couldn't last more than an hour and was prone to rash tackling. But he improved, after taking a relegation to League One and building back up with the team. It was a great set of steps for him and any player who was capable of making the improvements needed.
Clasie has had to hit the ground running, despite his injuries. Personally, I think he's done very well considering, and of course one hopes for improvement..

Type in a colon or semi-colon and with no space between type an end parenthesis. You'll find you get a :) or a ;)

    Any phone can do it.

I think Clasie actually plays more creative-type "deep playmaker" passes in a game than Schneiderlin did.

Not that Schneiderlin couldn't do it, just that he was used in a different role.

Another difference is that Schneiderlin was one of our fittest players.

And another point about Clasie; he missed scoring from a free kick by a whisker against Everton. And yesterday, that thing MOTD called a "chip" was a beautifully placed curling shot that we were in line to see - it was going in if it hadn't been deflected. So we could be talking about his two goals in three rather than accusing him of being unfit.

And if you were watching him when he was taken off, he wasn't even looking at the coaching team. It took players around him to tell him before he saw his number. He was taken off because of the booking, not exhaustion.

Well at least they had the MOTD highlights. Mine hadn't recorded because the hard drive was full. This happened once before- the 8-0 against Sunderland!<doh>
