Scrap the virgin idea. Not in a fibre optic cable area, so they can't provide me with tv.

Even if I could afford Sky I wouldn't pay for it on principle. Had a look at the conditions of my TV license and am considering getting rid of it altogether, will spend the money I save on going to the British GP.

Please sign this Petition to keep it on the BBC, if enough people sign it hopefully someone will see sense:
    http://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/keepf1onthebbc

It was only made an hour ago and already has 1,400 signatures, also anyone with Twitter could they possibly post it on Martin Brundle's account please?

One more request could members with accounts on other F1 Forums l post this link on their sites please.

My notes where apparently too long, as I was ranting away...can't even have a good rant at the BBC even when signiing a petition!

I must say, I'm rather saddened by the fact that some F1 fans are already considering forking out 'Sky-high' money they can ill afford.
This is precisely what Murdoch and his bandits are bargaining on.

Enough is enough. I already have Sky but it is only a matter of time before F1 becomes Pay per View. Since the news broke this morning, it has begun to sink in and I have reconsidered my initial reaction as stated at the beginning of this thread.

Listen, people can vote on this. It's called 'people power' and it can kill Sky's F1 takeover bid in the long-term. So how do we do it? - We don't subscribe or make any special attempt to get it, and we all watch it on the half-hearted BBC with the most enormous viewing figures. This renders Sky's investment nothing more than a bad gamble. Sky will make a total pigs ear of it in any case and the BBC selling out to their public who have no choice is an absolute disgrace.

I presently have Sky but I am going to cancel subscription in protest and will be writing to explain my reasoning
    .

They can come and collect their garbage, or it goes in the bin…

It is for me too but I suppose they just wait for the furore to die down then carry on, business as usual. Also, it's really annoying that this should happen just at the moment when people finally stand up to Murdoch.

I'm going to do that, or give in to murdoch partially, and buy top up tv, which means i'll be giving murdoch £30 a month for sky sports 1 and 2.

I have a subscription to Sky Sports already, but I'd rather watch F1 on La Sexta.

FOTA must sort this out before Sky mess things up.

However much we try, nothing will stop Sky from breaking the contract and giving it back to the BBC...

I totally agree. I cancelled my subscription a couple of weeks ago and won't directly subscribe to any News Corp concern again (sadly, part of my Virgin subscription goes to Sky for Sky 1, Sky News, etc. but there's nothing I can do about that). Anyone with Sky+ should be able to move to Freesat without needing a new dish.

I don't understand anyone who would subscribe to Sky for F1 when the BBC has half the races lives, either.

How is this possible? It looks like a better option for me.

It just occurred to me that this would never have happened under Max Mosley, defender of democracy and slayer of hacks and hackers! If we can mount a legal challenge, do you think Max will pay our legal fees? :)

Doesn't the BBC's current contract go until the end of 2013?
