The last five years? Ken Bates, Dennis Wise, Frank LeBoeuf and Headhunters with their charming little songbook were all there twenty years ago.
And the violence on the terraces (and outside both grounds) in the 70's was far worse with Chelsea. The extreme rivalry has been there for several decades!
Well, today's result means we're pretty much guaranteed CL football next year. Only Utd winning all their remaining games about 10-0 could stop us, even if we lost all our remaining games.
Just a reminder, on April 24th StanDMan said... STOP the Delusion SPUDS!! Our game vs Leicester will not matter. Like the great man Fab said - Leicester would have won the title before kickoff at the Bridge. please log in to view this image
The Leicester result today, especially another key player picking up a suspension, has at least kept things on the healthy side of intriguing for the time being, and adds that little bit more of an incentive to win tomorrow - as if any was needed. I fully expect Leicester to seal it at home with a win against Everton, but they truly looked nervous for the first time this season until Morgan's goal settled the nerves. Stranger things have happened in football, and it would be mind-boggling to sit down on the final day of the season watching Spurs play with the title still on the line. Forget the fact that it's "only little old leicester" - that's an experience and spectacle I never thought I'd see in my lifetime, let alone while I'm still the sunny side of 30. Realistically, we needed Leicester to lose to West Ham and United and they did neither. A lot depends on Dier's fitness. If he's available, I would actually play him alongside Mason and push Dembele up into the 3 to make life as difficult as possible for Chelsea's creaky defense. Hugo Walker Toby Jan Rose Dier Mason Lamela Dembele Eriksen Kane
That will depend on how much of his soul that LDL sold to Satan to get that scenario. Given the result was a draw, I suspect he didn't sell much at all (the ingrate) .
Me. The Gooners are annoying. Chelsea are racist thugs. They are asking the baying mob not to use racist chanting tomorrow. A complete waste of effort. I remember when they were happy to get 15,000+ in the 1980's and would get less than 10,000 from time to time. They're still small time and obsessed with us no matter how much money their owner pumps into the club. A club he bought because Levy wouldn't sell us to him. Oh yes, it's best not to mention Mr Abramovich's religion to them. They don't like it.
Can't say I personally like Moussa in an advanced position. We've tried him there countless times in the past and his tendency is just to pass sideways. Its only this season sitting deeper have we realised his best position. Not the time to tinker with players positions when they have worked so well in a settled system in recent months. I'd give Chadli a shot on the left and move Eriksen to the centre. Last time we ran riot over Chelsea, Naser had a great game. Hopefully he can find that form again today.
Tonight's game reminds me of a few games of yesteryear and two of their supporters. 1978 - Colin Lee got a couple and Hoddle may have got one and crossed for at least one of Lee's. That was the first game there for 3 years and it was one hell of a hostile atmosphere. They tried to lock us in after the final whistle and we forced the gates open. it was mayhem outside. I heard someone shout my name. A kid from down my road who was a few years older than me (the only Chelsea supporter I knew at that time) was hiding in a door way. He begged me to help him get home which I did. Fast-forward 4 years: 1982 - FA Cup 6th Round. Micky Hazard and Glenn Hoddle tore them apart in 10 second half minutes after they were 1-0 up at half time from one hell of a free kick by Fillery. I was in the Shed End courtesy of a really good guy (and Chelsea fan - there are some, he gave me a cup final ticket in '81 for nothing) having a spare ticket and having been abroad in the weeks before the game. At half-time the Shed End was really jumping. A sea of brown leather and racist hatred. Across the way I spot the bloke I saved 4 years previously. He sees me. I nod at him seeking that unspoken reciprocal arrangement of "I saved you - you say nothing, ok?" He points at me and at the top of his voice shouts "Tottenham Supporter!" The next time I saw him was when The Sun went after his arse in his position as Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police. I haven't stopped laughing to this day. Nearly all Chelsea fans are scum.
I can't stand the way they've effectively bought recent success (same with Man City). Terry is clearly a flawed human but other than that I don't really care. Seems most of the preoccupation with Spurs is from their side (same with West Ham) and is probably rooted in a far more sinister prejudice that simple geographical rivalry. I save my hate for the Goons but it's just football init... We have to get that Stamford Bridge monkey off our back at some point. Given all the bluster about this game from Chelsea fans as well as players, it would be lovely to play em off their own pitch. Really hope our travelling fans will stay safe as well. 8pm kick off on a bank holiday? I don't think it's the best of ideas to be honest.
Agreed. Both sets of fans will be more than tanked up by kick off. I sincerely hope nothing serious happens. Cannot fathom how/why the met police allowed this fixture to be played at this time.
Are you trying to say Chavski are scummier than the scum? Difficult one that. Chavski have always been a bunch of bone-heads short of IQ with extreme racist tendencies, and have become more scummier under Abravovich, but the scum are pure scum, so they could only equal them, not be worse.
Looking at the table and the games left, I think that the Goons could easily take a full 6 points which means we need at least a win and a draw from our 3 to stay above them. With Southampton hitting form and still having something to play for and Newcastle fighting for their PL lives, it's by no means certain that we can rely on those games. So I think we need something from tonight or risk losing 2nd spot......
Good luck for tonight Spuds from a Gooner Nice post - the worst we call you is Spuds but you still want to refer to us as scum !
I don't agree with that sentiment. However, what you say isn't entirely true. There was a comment from Peskie on your board just recently saying that 'even if the spuds finish above us they're still all ****s' So, it seems that to some the feeling is mutual...
Nsis me and you can exchange the banter and discuss football and other topics, I can also do that with RCL, PNP (we have the odd row but he is ok) and even Hiag (we have many rows but he is harmless), but some of the Spurs posters can't get past the scum mentality and we have similar in the Arsenal ranks unfortunately
