I was ranting about players giving these glib interviews, talking themselves up etc, only for them to precede an utterly **** performance.It happens time and again. I wish they'd spend more time focusing on the game coming up, than comparing themselves to Thomas Muller. Thomas Muller, ffs. Makes me wonder where his head is at.
If you read the interview again he's not comparing himself to Muller in terms of ability. Just in terms of the job they both do for their respective teams.
My point is at its easy to play well when the team around you is playing well. Not s easy when no one else is fella. If the team had been playing well yesterday, chances are he would have.

I know he only says "a bit like", but if he'd said "the tiniest little bit like Thomas Muller, when he's doing his weekly shopping, as he likes penne pasts too" I might agree. But to compare himself to the bloke in terms of the role he plays is ridiculous. Do you think Borini does the same job for us, as Muller does for Bayern? I know a lot of sportsmen work in denial to maintain their confidence, but I think he's completely deluded if he actually thinks this. Every man must know his limitations, as Dirty Harry once said....
I couldn't agree more. But maybe he could be a bit more Mulleresque, grab the team/game by the scruff of the neck and make some positive changes by bagging or creating a goal. Defoe must have eaten his Muller Rice on Saturday morning....
I don't think you're quite getting what I'm saying, or what Borini is saying. Comparing someone with another individual who does a similar role isn't ridiculous at all. It's like comparing the job Kirchoff does to what Bekenbaur did (someone did that exact comparison on here the other week). Borini is saying that he does 'blind jobs' at Sunderland, while Muller does them at Bayern. No where does he say "I am similar to Thomas Muller in terms of footballing ability", which the impression I'm getting.
I do get what you're saying, but I'm not sure you're getting what I'm saying. As for what Borini is saying, did you do the interview? Or is it just your interpretation of what he said that differs to mine? The press have undoubtedly twisted his not-so-wise words, anyway. My main point is these interviews typically precede a **** performance when someone talks themselves up. The tasks Borini (and Khazri) has to undertake are those required of a modern attacking player, up and down the leagues. Press off the ball, track back, create space and assist/score. Muller does this with great aplomb and is one of the best, if not the best Raumdeuter. I understand why he compares himself to 'What Muller does' and not some bloke playing for Cheltenham, even if said bloke is doing a damn fine job at his level. But the glibness still irks me before a game with so much at stake. For the record, I think Borini is Bentdneresque, but at least it makes him a great penalty taker.
