I'd hate to see us having to try and overturn a deficit at home. We're absolutely ****e at coming from behind, playing against an opposition with something to defend. If we lose away by any score I think we're ****ed. For that reason I'm not convinced playing away first will necessarily be an advantage for us.

I think I know who you mean but no it definitely wasn't me. I saw him in The Beehive Pub pre match. Ben's making mischief!

Utterly ****e Maloney, but considering that he is miles away from Brucie's starting 11 I guess he's pretty irrelevant in discussion

edit obv mean first choice 11

Maloney looked like he was trying to emulate the worst parts of Alukos game today that's the best I can say about him

I suppose the same applies to him as a lot of others too, not used enough to get a run of form or consistency but he was terrible. I'll stand up for players who give their all and Akpom did not finish well but he was at it all game and despite what anybody says having played the game if you bang one in that hits the bar then comes down on the line that is bad luck as a striker

This might have been discussed elsewhere but why did we let a smoke bomb off in the concourse at half time. Really spoiled the taste of my meat pie which was on course to be the highlight of the day....

I wish people would stop writing Brucie and tactics in the same sentence - you only make yourself look stupid

It's not overreaction when it's been happening for about 2 years now. Nobody can tell me that we haven't looked awful to watch for majority of that period! I watched the highlights of the Liverpool 1 - 3 Hull game this afternoon and that team we had out there was worse then our strongest 11 this season, but the difference is that team had a team spirit and most importantly confidence to go at teams which was instilled from Steve Bruce, where has that encouragement gone?? Because to me it looks like Brucie just doesn't want to be there anymore. Problem is you give Brucie a team of misfits like we was when he took over and he is brilliant at motivating those players, but as soon as he spends money just like at Sunderland hes then incapable of of getting the same out of the relative big names etc.

Not too much argument from me about that. There are two ways we can approach the play-offs, Bruces way which is rest players and have a look at some of the ones he hasn't used much or the way most seem to suggest on here, win games and play strong teams beforehand to gain momentum. I always think you have to approach something like the play-offs as a mini tournament so you need all the players ready to play 3 matches and to be particularly tuned up for the first couple so I don't disagree with Bruces method from now till the end of the season.

Statistics first. The Tigers. Unbeaten in five. Bolton. No win in fourteen games. Result: Bolton one Hull City nil.

This was not the way to go into the playoffs. Stevie Bruce was looking for positives. Few came from this game. A radically changed team with Lenihan getting a start, Dawson back in, and Jakupovic in again. Hernandez, Livermore, McGregor, Adubajo and Robertson all rested.

The first half started brightly enough, City crafting a chance in the first minute. Akpom had a great chance in the 17th minute but a poor header failed to find the target. Jakupovic made a fine save shortly after, and a good block by Lenihan kept the Trotters out. Another headed chance came in the 23rd minute, Akpom again heading wastefully wide. City had all the possession, but there were no rampaging runs from defence, as City seemed to be conserving their energy against a very limited Bolton side. It was a lacklustre performance, perhaps to be expected, but disappointing for the travelling Tigers’ faithful. We hope for more in the second half.It didn’t happen. Akpom hit the bar from twelve yards when it was easier to score, and it must be said, he didn’t advance his playoff prospects; wasteful throughout. And then a cross from the right, Maguire ballwatching, and the unmarked Dobbie had an easy finish. One nil Bolton. And that’s how it ended. I could detail the missed chances that came after that, but what would be the point? This was a game we never looked like winning. Three minutes into four added minutes, we had a corner. Didn’t get past the first defender. Did we send the keeper up to offer some excitement or entertainment? We didn’t. Now I understand the necessity to avoid injury, but surely the game today was about maintaining the momentum we’d built up? This was a Bolton team who’d won four games all season, and were there for the taking. Dilemma for Stevie Bruce. Who wants it? Who really, really wants it? Good effort from Lenihan. Nice touches from Hayden and Elmo, but very little to applaud. And virtually nothing to cheer.
The playoffs loom. At least there were no injuries.Huge improvement needed against Rotherham. Let’s all regroup, get behind the team, and triumph in the playoffs. COME ON YOU HULL.

Fairly good read apart from the bit about 'sending the keeper up' not sure this was a major tactical failing though it would have added comedy value with the Jak in the Box

I wonder how Alex Ferguson would have reacted to some of this teams lacklustre performances. Come on Brucie, get the hair dryer out!

Blamed the referees and targeted opposing managers with mind games?
