    gig ever?

Inspired by Tewkes making me jealous about seeing Living Colour in their pomp.

I'll start by saying the Rolling Stones a few years back at the 02. Fortunate to be in the front row so of course that will always help influence a decision.

So come on music lovers- tell us all about your sex, drugs and rock and roll experiences. Best story wins a <party>

Man alive I could be here all day! I'll bet half of you won't know any of these bands :p

Nine inch nails - brixton academy, March 2007, always a good night when your on your own at the front with 2 snake bites ;-)

Also paramore at the underworld 2007, got to meet them :) and the whole of reading festival 2007!

I'd like to mention worst gig as well, the libertarians at brixton 2004 I think, God awful! Only saving grace was chaz and Dave supported and Pete docherty smashing his own guitar into his face :-D

    Well Jel at Bowie AllHell...

Pulp at Hyde Park a few weeks ago was special, Oasis at Wemberlee like a month before they split was a box ticker.

Weller at the O2 a few years back, went straight from The Valley (can't remember who we played though?)

The Verve at V-festival '08 was perfect; sun going down, slightly merry and then a bit of rain - the rain came down the front of the stage like a waterfall.

Manic Street Preachers are the tightest band I've seen live

And an honourable mention to Ray Davies, such a showman!

Red Hot Chilli Peppers at Hyde Park about 5 years ago. And I bought tickets earlier this week to go and see them at the O2 in November :)

    Aaaargh!

    Haysey!!

    You've seen Paramore!!! :emoticon-0132-envy:

Missed them every single time they've toured.

    And you've met them...

At the risk of sounding like a middle-aged dirty mac man, Hayley Williams is just :emoticon-0115-inlov

Lol I don't wanna add salt to the wound but I've seen um 5 times, the underworld was best though, only 300 people in a tiny venue. The meeting was a bit tbh, they were on the verge of breaking up so Hayley did all the talking, she was like a 5 year old who'd just drank her weight in coke, hyper!

...that said, she is very pretty in person :)

I was at the V in 08 the rain started just as Ashcroft played the first chord to Sonnet and stopped when he played the last, very apt as it's my fav Verve track.........it then pi$$ed down the track after for the rest of the night - Blinding gig a privilege to see them. Ray Davies at the HopFarm in 2010, brilliant!!!!! Dylan headlined and Ray rocked him off stage by a million miles.........

The band ive seen most is Squeeze about 12 times and very special mention to Glen Tilbrook, a one man and his guitar show at the John Roan sports club about 18 months ago , only about 75 people there and he was outstandingly good and a top bloke had a pint with him afterwards and a massive CAFC fan, told you he was a top bloke!!

Davy you'll have to wear a Charlton top to the next Moons gig, the 100 club gig was I think the only London one I've missed! Was gutted, didn't go because of the snow!

Dylan was awful at Hop Farm, such a let down. Ray stole the show.

While technically not technically a gig as such, "Download festival" from a few years back was mindblowingly awesome.

Motorhead and kiss have to be the best known bands there, although not the best. Motorhead were somewhat disappointing to be honest. Still, one of the best weekends of my life.

That's the problem Davy Mac - I passed 1000 gigs a while back and the memorable ones stretch into hundreds.

OK, here's five in no particular order -

Slayer s/b Machine Head at Wolverhampton Civic- the best evening of Metal I've ever seen - immaculate sound, not overloud, just crisp and clear and searing.

Natalie Merchant s/b Katell Keinig at Wolverhampton Wulfrun - two of the most distinctive voices you'll ever hear and when Keinig joined on backing vocals in the middle of Merchant's set it was like having ice water dripped down your back.

Therapy s/b Skunk Anansie at the Civic - I went to see Therapy, who were great, especially Trigger Inside, one of my favourite tracks ever, but right at the start when this skinny, bald black girl with a white cross painted on her head blasted into Selling Jesus you knew something special was happening - saw them a dozen times, never less than dynamic.

Bruce Springsteen at The Lyceum in London when he was touring Born to Run played until he was on his knees, way over three hours, missed my last train home and had to sleep on Charing Cross station and get the Milk Train.

Primus s/b The Limbomaniacs at Edwards No.8 in Birmingham - tiny, sweaty venue with a pair of the weirdest bands imaginable. Les Claypool of Primus is still the best bass player I've ever seen. He was playing an eight-stringer (!) at this gig and it felt like a little man was trying to break out of your skull from the inside. Limbomaniacs never made it but left one unforgettable album of completely deranged funk-metal that I daren't play in the car because it seriously affects my driving.

Non-pro gigs - watching my step-daughters singing like two angels when taking the leads in their respective Christmas concerts Joseph and Guys and Dolls. Cried from start to finish.

Worst gig ever Black Crowes at The Civic (sorry PEA) - paid today's equivalent of 45 quid for the ticket and they played a selection of b-sides and covers - they walked off stage after 45 minutes when a disgruntled punter (that would be most of us) threw a full pint at them. Bad night.

Oh, I love my music. :emoticon-0100-smile

My wife would say hers was Wham The Final, but my fave was Maze feat Frankie Beverley at the Hammersmith Apollo back in 83, awesome jazz funk concert with local boys Second Image in support. Iv'e been to many others incl. George Benson, Luther Vandross, The Commodores and even Gary Numan & Tubeway Army.

    :afro:

The worst concert i ever saw was Elvis Costello & The Attractions at The Albert Hall.......most of the audience left before the interval. It was truly a bizarre occassion...all he wanted to do was talk and not sing.

It was a spectacular night, Haysey, about two months after the first Machine Head album came out - when they played Davidian, I thought the floor was going to collapse. When Slayer came on the place went nuts and one bloke was taken away and arrested for diving from the balcony onto the crowd below.

All the gigs I'd wanted to see came up at once that year, this one was the third I'd been to in four days (sandwiched between Stravinsky's Rite of Spring and Tori Amos - diverse tastes, or what? :emoticon-0100-smile) and ended up seeing ten in a fortnight - no wonder my hearing's screwed - I was skint for months after...

KP, you've seen Maze...we are not worthy. Still touring, although they haven't made a new album in ten years (?) often imitated, rarely bettered.
