Then we'll have to disagree. We were terrible in both games against Portugal. We took the lead early on in 2004, only to hang on for penalties. In the end we were lucky to get that far. Portugal were not that good. They lost to Greece - TWICE !! In 2006 we were terrible in the whole tournament - scraped wins against Paraquay 1-0, Trinidad 2-0 late on with Crouch having to cheat to get his goal and Ecuador 1-0. And as I remember we only took one fit striker, the manager deciding to take Rooney (injured), Owen (injured) and Walcott (one for "the future", never played for England, don't think he'd even played for his club at the time and never used at the world cup). And of course he kept faith in his lapdog, Goldenballs, who admitted himself afterwards that he was not fit enough to go. Yeah, way to go Sven, you're a managerial genius ! Then he gets what he deserved - the sack (at least two years too late imo) Ok, so he's England's 3rd most successful manager ? Hardly an acheivement and debatable when even Terry Venables got us to a semi-final at the first attempt in 1996.
To be fair, in the 2004 Euros we had a goal disalowed for some unknown reason and they scored an absolute thunderbolt. I agree we we're bad in Germany though To be the third most successful manager of an international team and the most successful for over 20 years isn't a bad thing is it?
I'd disagree. To be the third (I'd say fourth) best manager of England with the players at his disposal I think is an under acheivement. Frankly I can't believe the FA tied him up on such a contract that they couldn't afford to get rid of him for FIVE ****ing years !!!!! You could see it in his eyes, he had that "They can't sack me anyway" look about him. His lack of passion for the job filtered through to the players. To be honest, I don't think he was given a fair chance at City. He's proven himself to be a good club manager (abroad !). I just don't think his credentials in England - at club or international level - are anything to shout about. We'll see !
The fact is Leicester have now brought in some relatively 'name ' players that most football fans would have heard of. These 'name' players tend to get the better looking birds. Got to be odds on that Sven will be dabbling with at least one of these pieces within a few weeks, leading to dressing room unrest and, therefore, Leicesters capitulation. I don`t respect Sven as a manager, but as an Accountant looking playa, he deserves some kudos.
As I said earlier in this thread the argument over who is the best team is fairly futile as we’ll soon start finding out. I think all fans sometimes overrate the players in their own team compared to players they don’t see week in week out. Time will tell whether our signings are any good or not as I haven’t seen enough of them in a Leicester shirt. One player I can speak about with some confidence, however, is Kisnorbo. I really rated him at Leicester and was disappointed when Pearson let him go for nothing. I would rate him as a very good defender, but limited footballer. Despite my assessment of Kisnorbo I’m pretty sure he would not get into our team. I genuinely wouldn’t put him in above Tunchev or Bamba and that’s not even counting Mills who I haven’t seen play on a regular basis. That Leeds’ fans are putting so much faith in Kisnorbo as one of the differences from last season is actually one thing on this thread that serves to give me confidence that we might be better than them.
