I have to say I agree that this is the first step down the path which boxing took. Not good for F1 audiences, and with a bit of luck, no-one will purchase a Sky deal as a result of this heinous under-selling to the UK F1 fan. What a poor decision. I implore everyone to voice their opinion strongly directly to the BBC and SKY. P.S. to Genji if you're still reading: If you don't fancy your old name back, perhaps you could just change the word "…YOU" to "…SKY"!
WTF happened to "f1 can never go on pay TV" this is a disgrace. And dont pretend the races the bbc have will be any good either. They will cut back a lot. A sad day. This could be the decline of F1. Viewing figures will drop massively. I can't believe that bastard murdock has won...
Sad day for F1, I'm off to the new le mans series and now turn my back on the FIA and FOTA for stabbing us in the back. BBC and sky can go **** themselves until the rich cows come home. Such a shame that I had to come back on a subject of bad news... Be a horrible thing to suggest, but we now need another dominace era from somewhere like Ferrari once did and ruin it again so that the ratings truly plummet.
A quote from bernie When asked whether he felt it was a shame a terrestrial broadcaster would no longer be showing every race live "It was not us who made that decision".
It is indeed a dark day for F1 and its fans. I am shocked and disgusted, as they say. I can't believe the back-stabbing, foot-shooting stupidity of it. Will the money Sky pay cancel out the loss of viewers and sponsorship revenue? I doubt it but the bottom line is now we have to pay a lot to watch what my licence fee has always covered. F1 is the only sport I follow. What f***ing good is a Sky Sports subscription to me? What about the Concorde agreement? Good to see you back, Genji
I feel ****ing sick, it has completly sucker punched me. **** Sky I will be watching the non-BBC races on illegal streams online. Not that it will do much good but there is a petition. ps. Welcome back Genji, at least I hope it is welcome back and it was not just a guerilla comment. pps. If BBC can't afford the entire season why can't channel 4 or five take it over exclusively?
That would be helpful if anyone's about. Thanks for all the welcomes but I should point out that I felt compelled to post because I'm both vexed and saddened by this news, which isn't a very positive reason to post. While I understand the BBC's position and that this gives anti-Murdoch F1 fans at least some coverage, I feel very strongly that it's just wrong. It may not be the same as supporting a brutal governmental regime but it's in the same ethical ball park as racing in Bahrain. The Murdoch ethos that led to the activities of Glenn Mulcaire and Paul McMullen has also given us Kate Burley and Andy Gray, not to mention subscription commercial channels you pay to be advertised at. My opinion of all News Corp interests is that they're inhuman and dehumanising. That's the devil F1 and the BBC (who this morning were promoting a new Sky 1 sitcom) are now sleeping with. The BBC is becoming less independent, which begs the question why we're paying a licence fee.
= O and now silver arrow is back!!! F1 on sky doesnt seem so bad anymore Btw how much is skysports subscription on Freeview?
Its a morning of welcomes, welcome back Silver everyone is back now. On your comment, i half agree, let the sport go to its knees, and them they will come crawling back to their roots.
Well what a morning !!!! the tight arses at the BEEB sell out AND we have Genji & Silver Arrow back !!!! Brilliant !!!! Stick with us guys - pretty please. PICK A TEAM GUYS !!!
So Crofty tells us that EVERY race will be on BBC 5 live radio, and says it like we should be thanking BBC for their continued showing to F1 fans.
Genji what do you want your new user name to be? Ill see if the admins can change it for you! PS- your PMs dont work
So now I am only paying me tv license for Top Gear (which they have massively cut the budget for), match of the day, and the odd documentary, that is pretty much it.
Just read the bbc live text and reports on it. They're really trying to pretend this is good news. "Good news, F1 is going to become a minority sport"
I read that it would cost £700 a year to watch every grand prix in HD. Now don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of f1, but I would rather spend that kind of money going to silverstone or spa and have a decent seat to boot.
