    In the real world.

    0-0 away. Not half bad.

0-1 away bad.. end off. Yawn... just call it like it is.

**** performance. Negative tactics.... mountain to climb in second leg, requiring perfect execution and breaking a massed defense.

Just saying 1-0 is a little more than nothing to come back against. Am I wrong in that?

1-0 isn't ideal result... but win by 2 goals and we're through. We just need to make sure we score first, if they get an early goal in 2nd leg then it's a massive uphill task.. get the early goal and they will be stuck in 2 minds... defend and try nick one on counter or push forward.

Possibly, we have already beaten them recently, though they will be starting on a level playing field (0-0) in the final <ok>

It's not a mountain yet... like I say, get a goal early doors and it's all even again.

Yeah we probably won't keep a clean sheet, but we scored 4 v Stoke, 4 v Dortmund, 4 v Everton so we are capable of scoring enough goals to win this game and tie.

It's HT... we've come back from bigger deficits at HT in plenty of games, especially Europe.

They will sit back and try defend a 1-0 lead in the 2nd leg for as long as possible... if they do that and be negative about it then it can play into our hands.

Nobody said it was nothing. I said it is a pretty easy result to overturn, with the caveat that it depends on our usually leaky defence holding out for 90 minutes against them and getting a clean sheet.

We have scored in our previous 14 fixtures, before tonight, and we've also scored in 9 consecutive home games. Also the last time we didn't score in an European home game was 2014 (against R.Madrid) so I think its pretty nailed on that we will score, what isn't so clear is whether our defence will be able to hold out.

You aren't wrong in what you're saying but the problem is you are arguing against something no one actually said.

I thought it was ****ing dreadful today. They had a very deep two lines of 4 every time we attacked which looked hard to break down and they were very good when on the ball going forward. I am not confident in US scoring multiple goals against that team, let alone us not conceding again while Toure bird watches.
Gonna be a tough ask next week.

    Firm hit the post
Moreno was thinking about selfies with his dog, couldve been a whole lot different, fine lines

Im pleased we're trailing by one goal ratherthan 0-0. We have to and can go for it, we have the attacking players. Our 12th man will be rocking and will inspire

He used to be, which is why Sakho should have known better the big gallumph! Got done in 2011 for it.

Argh, was 1 minute away from a decent and professional performance and result.

Can only assume Klopp thought the draw was safe which is why he didn't bring on Sturridge.

No doubt Moreno will get ALL of the blame for the goal but he's not the only one - Moreno goes to press a player in midfield because no one else was there. When he loses that press, he doesn't show enough effort to get back into position and doesn't track his runner, Lucas jumps in for a challenge and misses, and is caught out and then nowhere to be seen which leaves the defence exposed, Kolo didn't read the flight of the ball and Lovren is practically jogging into the box and has no anticpation.

Such a horrible goal to concede.

Allen seems to have a habit of missing big chances which end up costings us! - I remember the one against Everton and I'm sure there are a couple of other examples. Apart from that, he was our best player.

FIrmino isolated up with little service - didn't do much wrong but didn't offer a lot. Meh performance.

Coutinho and Lallana however - they were shocking.

    Klopp #bottledit

    @astroturfnaut

I didn't understand his tactics, playing Firmino as the false 9 was fine, but having done that why continually work the ball wide and put crosses in the box to no-one?

For me they're a fairly ordinary side and if you'd have stuck Sturridge on and had a go 2nd half, then you could well have got the crucial away goal.

That said I think you'll be too strong for them at Anfield, but you've now got the worry of them scoring a potentially crucial away goal on the break.

As for their goal, I just think that was a peach of a ball personally, you could say Toure maybe slightly misread the flight, but I think that's harsh as it was a fabulously weighted pass.

It was noted at the end that Sturridge didn't join the rest of the subs in the warm down.......arse out perhaps?

Yeah, think it's a bit harsh on Toure for that ball, firstly its the 90th minute so he's probably flat on his arse, second that ball was a good one (maybe a tiny bit short if there was a criticism) and thirdly Toure was already heading back, to have got to the ball he'd have needed to adjust and start going forward. Then the composure showed by suarez was unbelievable to see adrian and just roll it across.

This was a bad result but not terminal. It leaves the whole tie in the balance. Villarreal have to avoid defeat or else avoid conceding 1 goal more than us in defeat.

It could have been avoided. We could have gone for a goal and played Sturridge. A 2-1 defeat would have been better for us. Once we realised that Villarreal was there for the taking.

For me it is now 50-50. Could lightning strike twice (after the Dortmund one)? Sakho and Can are not playing which makes it even more difficult.

The game is there to be won at Anfield. If we get knocked out to that Villareal side then we don't deserve anything, they're very poor.
They didn't impress me at all, there were times in the game when it looked like a training session for us. From their point of view that is a lame effort at home (I know they won, but they were dire).

After hearing and reading from Klopp this morning, I fully expect us to smash them at Anfield.

The players won't have any fear of them, with the roaring home fans we all know what we're capable of. Should be a formality 3-0 win at home. We've played far better teams than that and won easily. I seriously doubt Klopp is too worried. Go for it and we score a hat-full at home. Coutinho and Sturridge to bring home the bacon on Thursday.
