You played right into Villarreals hands there, at no point were you in control of the game they just let you have the ball outside there box for short periods. The last 10 mins were telling, they decided you were played out and went for the kill, should have had 2 and could have had 3.
Don't think we even did which is worse...they weren't up for this match but yes, quickly saw we had no goal threat. They didn't get the kill because we were "played out" we got killed because our defence decided to vacate their own half with seconds to go. Klopp sent the wrong message bringing on Benteke so late...it suggested suddenly we aren't settling for the draw so muppets like Moreno bombed up. If you're not settling bring on the striker at 60-70 minutes. If you're settling bring on a midfielder or defender with 2 minutes to go. Just daft.
Totally fair except they did no such thing last 10. They didn't up a gear at all. It was just abysmal positioning and suarez finally being off the left wing. They had 3 or 4 really good chances. We really didn't try.
You are probably right about not upping a gear, they just seemed to make/find so much more space in that last 10.
Next week is massive now. Seriously messed up tonight. Poor tactics, poor decisions. They look like they've lost a couple of key players from tonight from hammy's - but **** me we really could have beat this lot tonight.
That would have been a European record for games without loses, seemed like the team wanted their names down for that and forgot to bother trying to win
Think its unfair to blame klopp on this one. Benteke in theory was a sensible sub to give us an out ball. In game management and plain common sense needs to prevail and most of our defence lacks that. Though i feel that since gerrard and carragher left our defensive ingame management has gone to pot anyway
A clean sheet at home and you're off to another final IMO . An away game with the line up you put out , that was actually impressive . Bad enough Toure got caught watching the stars but no one had enough gumption to worry about a rebound ... Difference is none of those play their home games at Anfield. Bigger and better teams have crumbled under the Anfield atmosphere than Villarreal.
Shame Toure wasn't on the same supplements as Sakho, he might have lasted the extra 2 minutes at the end
