As if we didn't know the holiday mood hadn't already set in, Slavi has told the local paper today about the team preparations for next season. None of the sun or mountain views this year, the lads (whoever they are) can expect a good old slog in the bog with a tour in Ireland. "Slavisa Jokanovic wants somewhere colder than 2015 to toughen up Fulham troops - so everyone in white is off to Ireland in July. Last year, the training camp was in Portugal where Fulham inflicted the first defeat of many on Aston Villa this season as well as enjoying baking heat Albufeira. The Estadio Da Nora on July 11 was where Whites first kicked a ball in anger to beat Villa 3-1 with goals from Matt Smith, Alex Kačaniklić and Ross McCormack. This time the Emerald Isle will be base camp and hopefully launch a better campaign to follow, with a friendly against League of Ireland Cork City in the offing. The head coach and club officials are currently putting final touches in place for the trip. Jokanovic said: “We are going to a more colder place. Generally, for British clubs it’s better, and we are going to Ireland. We have some pre-season games lined up, around 50 per cent have been arranged, but not all of them. Cork is probably the second game, and the first is against a very small side. We are 85 per cent done on the preparation for this tour.” Source: http://www.getwestlondon.co.uk/spor...ws/fulham-reveal-pre-season-training-11237270 Have a faint memory of reading a story of a previous trip in the south of Ireland when the players were blootered most of the time. Micky Adams era?
Funnily enough, I was just trying to remember if it was Ireland that we visited pre-season before the Micky Adams promotion year. If it results in another season like that one, they can drink as much as they like!
Having recently read Simon Morgan's book I can confirm it was our promotion season under Adams that we went to Ireland! Anyone thinking of popping over to the Emerald Isle? Have dates been confirmed?
Not yet Cookie, just that it's July. And for general interest: Season 2016/17 Fixtures will be announced on 22nd June Season 2016/17 Starts on 6th August
Living on the Emerald Isle, I hope to get rare opportunity to see a game, fingers crossed there not all near Cork, I'm right up in the north, 6hrs away. Not as bad as some in these parts who have an overnight stay to pop down to Belfast, 1hr and 15mins away, so they do!
No details about the Tour of Ireland from the Club, despite the early fanfare. Nor about this first team fixture - which Brighton have been to happy to announce Tuesday 19th July 2016 v Fulham (at Aldershot Town FC) - 7.45pm Source: http://www.seagulls.co.uk/news/arti...es-confirmed-3125127.aspx#547R1dWQjZ7sSbbg.99 PS We were in the old 3rd Division the last time we visited Aldershot.
It always annoys me how late they leave it to confirm details of our pre season tours, games in Ireland, Scotland or most of Europe I would be interested in going, but having a two year old, 6 month old and working shifts the longer they leave it the harder it is to organise. In recent years we have been to Scotland and Germany/ Austria that I definately would have got to with a few extra weeks notice. Very interested in going to Cork, never been to Ireland and have Cirk is lovely.
CORK is lovely too, Cookie. If you get over there try to tour the coast, stunning! I'm hoping they may play Derry, it's my adopted home city. Derry are the only Northern Ireland team playing in the Irish league, and doing very well, so they are. A trip over for that I would recommend, you have the North Antrim coast and Co Donegal to explore, both absolutely beautiful. Keep this quiet but Northern Ireland is a wonderful place, which few seem to move across to, thankfully. And the Guinness is at its best.
Just to frustrate me even more Palace have announced there pre season fixture in Vancover, allowing my brother a Palace fan living in Calgary to organise a trip while I'm still waiting!
Cookie it's news but no good news I'm afraid. The incomperable (think I've got that right) Sarah Brookes has said on twitter the there will be 3 games in Ireland, probably in the first two weeks of July. However 2 of the games will be behind closed doors and the other she can't say anything about because the kick off time hasn't been fixed.
Lol cheers Cottager, kind of expected this it's similar each season, getting leave at work is not easy and anything less than a months notice is unlikely so my chances were disminishing with everyday that passed.
Hi guys, haven't been on here much recently as I've been super busy after moving to a new job, which ideally is located in Cork. Since moving here I've been somewhat of a regular at Cork City's home games as I live pretty much beside their stadium, Turner's Cross. Extremely excited to hear that Fulham will be over during the summer. I'd definitely recommend coming over if anyone is interested - Cork is wonderful at this time of year. If any of you do decide to come, make sure to do a tour of the west coast. Beautiful scenery! Hopefully, I'll get the chance to post here more regularly going forward. I miss this place.
Welcome back FI and good luck in the new job. Remember only 59 days before the Fantasy League needs setting up. PS One of the friendlies is definitely in Cork. What's not clear is whether it's a closed doors one.
Thanks C58, happy to set up the Fantasy League. Hopefully I'll pay more attention to it next year. There have been a few murmurings around here that Fulham are coming. For a club like Cork City, there's not much point playing a behind closed doors friendly. It'll be half way through the season here and Cork are in a title fight so unless they get to take in a bit from ticket sales, it wouldn't be a worthwhile exercise. Here's hoping!
At last ... it's Official: "The team will spend nine days in Cork, Ireland, from Monday 4th July. Here, the team will play two behind-closed-doors fixtures and a match against Cork City on Saturday 9th July (3pm), which will be open to the public. Ticket prices are Adults: €15, Juveniles (13-18): €10, Under-13s/Seniors: €5. Following their return home, the next – provisional - fixture sees the Whites play on Tuesday 19th July (7.45pm) against Brighton and Hove Albion with venue details to follow shortly, and two days later the group set off to the Algarve in Portugal where they’ll spend five nights and play two friendly matches." There you go FI and others. Don't understand why the Club can't confirm the venue for the Brighton game since, as noted in the post above, Brighton have already said it will be played at the Aldershot ground. And as for Portugal, kind of looks as though those games will be behind closed doors. Sure there's a purpose behind all this 'veiled' stuff (comminication and matches) but it 'aint half frustrating for fans.
Just a thought on our opening Championship game on 6th August I wonder if we will be at Home, because they released the Premier fixtures and Chelsea will play WHU on the 13th. So normally we don't clash with them, hence we should be away on that day.
Another game announced and belatedly the Brighton one confirmed: "Fulham will face Crystal Palace in a pre-season friendly at Craven Cottage on Saturday 30th July (3pm). [Tickets are available for supporters to purchase now, priced at £10 for adults and from £1 for concessions. These prices will increase on the day of the game.] Furthermore, we can confirm that our friendly against Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday 19th July (7.45pm) will be played at Aldershot Town’s Recreation Ground. [There will be no advance sales for this fixture, but tickets will be available to buy on the turnstiles, priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.]"
Nearly rosc - not many, apart from the new boy, around Slavi as they headed off to Ireland this afternoon please log in to view this image Seriously though, the team fitness coach Alastair Harris in a chat video on the official site said that each player would only perform for 20 minutes in the first of the pre-season friendlies. One of the behind closed door affairs. Given that and what is left of our squad, there must be a heck of lot of U21s/U18s in the touring party.
The Club has confirmed details of two friendly matches when our Euro trip takes us trip to the Algarve. "The Whites will cross the border to Spain to face La Liga outfit Real Betis first on Saturday 23rd July (8pm local time, 7pm UK/Portuguese) at the Municipal de Isla Cristina Stadium, before taking on Portuguese side Nacional at the Estadio da Nora on Monday 25th July in a 7pm kick-off." Wrong outfit in Spain Fulhaman but do you reckon home loyalty might make an exception?
