Long as an individual is better in the middle, since he's not a great crosser or passer. Also he's good in the air. Striker is his natural position.

I don't think that's the best option for the team going forward, or if it is we need to think about bringing in another striker.

But as for Long over Pelle. I would do that for the remainder of the year. I think Pelle is better against teams that park the bus, but we probably won't have any more games like that. Besides, with only an outside shot at Europe we need to think about our options for next year.

Personally, I don't think Long will prove good enough as striker if we wish to improve our league standing next year. But he deserves the chance over the rest of the year to show what he can do.

I suspect we will need to bring in at least one and probably two attacking players, because none of Long, Pelle, Davis, Mane (for now), or Tadic cut the mustard. They're all good players, but not quite top level, and the result is that as collective unit our attack is not that great.

Sometimes you just need a playing style to suit your attackers for it to work.
Basically, don't throw the baby out with the bath water.
Potentially one good signing could elevate the others.

I believe we would be third based on 2016 results and Long being a regular. We can't be that far away.

You've pretty much got it. What's the most notable thing about Leicester? That their worst injury crisis was when Kante missed one game in about January. That's the future of professional footballers, and Long plays to the same intensity every week - even if he doesn't win the game, at least he's on the pitch. And most of the rest of our team are, you know, not like that. Really hope we programme that into the black box.


Morgan was exactly the same.

Additionally, it's a playing style that consistently works home and away, against attack-minded teams and those set up to defend. They have scored in 15 consecutive league matches, and in 32 of 35 overall (with all three of those scoreless results happening in consecutive games over Christmas/New Year's). The attacking juggernauts that are City and Spurs have been blanked eight and six times, respectively.
 
Vardy and Mahrez are both quite good. Everyone other team in the PL is dreaming just like you all are. "Yeah, our players are a bit crap. But just you wait the sum will be greater than the parts!" The sum of our parts equals eighth place. Theirs equals first.

Also, while I admire his skills as a player, Vardy seems to be a bit of a douchebag. So let's not pretend all we need is a winning attitude to conquer the league. Our team appears to be very together in spirits, but again...eighth place.

There's nothing wrong with Long, but he's highly overrated by a certain segment of posters. Most likely the same set that massively overrates Davis. They run around a lot! They try real hard! They must be great!

I think you've misjudged us 'certain section of posters' and you don't take in posters overall views, just a snapshot.

I would say that most people on here "like" Shane Long, but don't necessarily think he is that good (as in top striker). That certainly covers me. In the last 3-4 months he has been our best attacking threat and with him in the team, we have looked a better side. The "run around a lot they must be great" comment is frankly, pathetic. People are appreciating that effort, not saying that makes them great. I'm a Davis fan but also think we need an upgrade on him. It is possible to think both! He also does a lot more than run around, but perhaps you don't see that.

If you want to discuss or debate this, quote the person and have a conversation, rather than a sweeping generalisation just because some people have a different view to you.
 
Our problem is not up top, seriously. How many times this season have we failed to score? We concede too many silly goals, that's what we need to address first imo.

Really? I agree we've conceded some silly goals but a quick glance at the table shows we have the 6th best defensive record in the league. Only the top five have conceded fewer goals. In contrast, when it comes to goals scored we're 9th. So I'd say scoring more goals is the bigger issue.
