I can't. I don't live in England. You're missing the point, so well done, but I'm not going to engage further.
Let's try to clear up the confusion. Bruce had two interviews. One I saw and the other it seems that most of the others have seen. In the one I saw Bruce says that it would be better if there's unity now. In the interview the others saw Bruce said that the membership scheme may not be a good idea. One person said: "It didn't come across to me like that at all." but that was because he had watched a different interview! It's as simple as that. I was commenting on an interview Bruce had done but others seemed to think I was commenting on the interview that others had seen. I dont think there's any disagreement. But obviously some people may still want to disagree!
I have to say I agree with Peter. It was a very strange interview. Bruce was fairly unequivocal - he thinks the Allams have got it wrong on this one, and if we don't like it, we shouldn't buy into the scheme. Having said that; it did feel pretty uncomfortable - he was critical of the fans. Mentioning the money and how disappointed the old man would be if he heard the protests - he did say to be careful what you wish for. It was clear Bruce wasn't on board with the scheme; but the Humberside interview certainly seemed to suggest he didn't like the protests either. I'm quite sad about that; considering there were no vocal protests on Saturday, and tonight's protest couldn't have been more controlled or dignified.
My view is that the fans should protest before matches, after matches and at half time but not during the game. I didnt even like the "Allam out" chants during the Reading match. The interview I saw is being played repeatedly on Sky now. Bruce is being critical of the fans protesting. I know Bruce has been quoted as saying that the membership scheme may not be a good idea but that is a different point to whether there should be protests.
It's not though. The answer is by human action. I don't understand the point you are making. The problem with Dylan's songs is that they can be ambiguous so anybody can "understand" them. It could mean "the answer is so obvious it is right in your face, or the answer is as intangible as the wind"
The default attitude by Allam is that the fans protesting about anything are just an ill-informed vocal minority but the Allams will be proved right in time. They thought the FA would support them. Right now they think they will be proved right when everybody signs up to the membership scheme. When this doesn't happen the Allams will blame the fans and not the scheme.
I think Bruce is one of the people, and said what he felt quite clearly. Vote with your feet, walk away from it because it's wrong. However, my job is to get this lot up into the Premier League and protesting during the match may well jeopardize that - the team on the park need your support. He may well have screwed himself with such comments, but there's no doubting he wants promotion for the fans - not just for his own resume and future legacy. He's trying very hard to mediate in a very difficult situation. Burnsy was also very good (and sensitive) in the interview I heard with Bruce after the match. Well done the both of them.
In the interview I saw there was no reference to protesting during the match. He didn't think protests were helpful to getting promotion or Allam's recovery and he kept referring to the money the Allams had spent on the club. I've never understood the philosophy that one good deed should allow some bad ones.
Walking away from the scheme doesn't help the youngsters and seniors. It would if the owner was the sort of person who would possibly say: "It looks like we got this wrong" but he isnt. The present protest may not get him to change is mind but the publicity will make him feel very uncomfortable and he deserves it - hospital or no hospital.
I still don't understand the attitude that these protests are harming the club. We protested at Palace away last season and won, protested at Reading this season and won, and have protested tonight and won. Heck in our first PL season under Bruce when the chants of "City Til I Die" started at 19:04 against Liverpool, Jake scored at about 19:20!
I don't think anybody can complain about fans singing "City Til I Die". It's the critical chants during the game that some fans object to.
I think you may well be misinterpreting my posts Peter. I am not disagreeing with anything you have said, far from it. My sense was (listening to the commentary of the game throughout and Burns's interview with Bruce thereafter), that Bruce was trying to suggest that the team would need crowd support & implying that any escalation of protest in upcoming home games may well be detrimental to the objective of gaining promotion. Protest, he implied (my reading), may well not help AA with his illness, in fact may well entrench his antagonism towards the "rabble'/supporters. The point of "Blowing in the wind" is directed at both the owners of the club and the forum member you were debating with. Let's call it the "shifting of the sands" to manipulate and justify argument & actions. Personally, I thought Bruce and Burns handled that interview incredibly well. Perhaps it was not the one you listened to. I'd post a Dylan song now - but they're hard to find on youtube...so this will have to do...
