The jury has concluded that the fans were unlawfully killed. About bloody time, disgraceful it's taken this long. Some amazing and moving scenes both inside and outside the court!
Delighted for the families. I hope they sue whoever and get millions in compensation. I was at Loftus Road that day and will never forget the shock at seeing the pictures on the tv when I got home. Lots of people lied through their teeth and prolonged the families agony. Scandalous.
I remember that day in much the same way. We played Middlesbrough in a dull 0-0 draw. Rumours spread around the Ellerslie Rd stand that a disaster had occurred at Hillsborough. It wasn't until I got home and saw the TV that I realised the true extent of the horror.
I was at home and witnessed being shown on live TV, it was initially portrayed as crowd hooliganism. However the TV producers quickly realised how serious it was and the live cameras left the scene, only going back occassionally to relate how serious the situation had become. Right from the start, the media had apportioned the blame...It has taken 27 years to clear the record....
Absolutely Beth and finally........the families are vindicated and their 27 year fight was not in vain. It reminds me a bit of the Guildford four and Birmingham six.
Justice won't come easy after 27 years. Certainly the senior police officers responsible for forcing their subordinates to change their statements should be brought to trial but it will be a tough job getting everyone who deserves punishment brought to book even if they are still alive...
As I understand it from a documentary a few years ago, a lot of the perpetrators of this crime are now dead. However, and no matter how old they are any that are still alive should be banged up for a minimum of 27 years. Let's see shall we?
The guy in charge on the day Chief David Duckenfield is still alive, and he was to blame. He also tried to turn the blame onto the fans, this lowlife should be brought to trial and sent down for the rest of his days. It's the very least those that died because of his failings deserve!
Duckenfield reportedly suffered sleepless nights and PTSD after the event. I cannot describe how little I sympathise with this lying bastard. He has the blood of 96 people on his hands and I hope the c**t rots in hell along with all the others that colluded with him.
This won't be popular but I refuse to believe that the actions of certain Liverpool fans there that day didn't contribute to what happened. The police were hugely negligent too, I believe, but it's wrong to blame the police entirely.
I wasn't there that day,so I can't definitively say that certain fans behaviour didn't help proceedings, but what I can definitively say is that if the police had martialled the crowd correctly and closed the Leppings Lane End in time, then no-one would have lost their life that day!
Watford, the jury at the inquest blame the police. After all the lies and cover ups, that's good enough for me.
The bereaved families will never have closer but my thoughts are with them...I'm affraid the establishment will cotton wool the guilty!
Like I said, I think the police did an awful lot wrong in a difficult situation. That doesn't necessarily mean no one else could have acted better.
Have you spent 2 years studying all of the evidence, reading all of the documents that were belatedly published, listening to the evidence of dozens of witnesses? I have no idea what happened, I wasn't even in the country, on that day, but see no reason not to trust the verdicts.
