urgh that smug grin on Saylor's face, makes you want Andy Carroll to punch him in the jaw again! The article seems to suggest some long term-ism from Benitez as regards building a defence, so this may mean there's a slim chance of him staying on regardless of what happens...unlikely though.
I was told from a very good source that Saylor wants out anyway if we go down. He wants to either have another year in the PL, or he has offers from abroad, namely Dubai. Good for all parties. I don't doubt his effort but he just hasn't developed at all. Its the clubs fault, if you look at what we had to work with when he first started under Bobby, with good guidance and looking after him better he could have been decent. However we just pushed him through injuries which has left an indelible mark on his career. He still makes the same basic mistakes he made when he was 21 which also tells you the coaching has been terrible from 21-27 when those skils should be put in place. I'm told he is injured again.
Taylor's out of contract so no problem getting rid but I think we'll have a hard time offloading Coloccini considering there is surely no one else in the world stupid enough to pay him the wages we do. We may loan him out somewhere with us paying most of his wages, maybe.
A whole year? That will be a first. So is he after some kind of career milestone like breaking double figures for PL appearances?
Huge indictment on the board and owner that we're even in a position where Steven Taylor and particularly Coloccini are anywhere near the football club. It's beyond embarrassing that, year on year, you can have such an abysmal defensive record and continually fail to strengthen the defense.
