Some mindless ****ers have trashed Cott Cricket Club, a lot of volunteers put in a lot of work down there and the place has been wrecked. Rick Skelton has set up a funding page for anyone willing to donate - please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
As someone heavily involved with a cricket club this sickens me. Clubs can not exist without volunteers giving up significant time let alone the 10 hours on a Saturday playing too.
That’s fantastic news, my son plays cricket for Cottingham, so I would just like to say thanks to Rick for starting this and OLM for keeping this going on twitter. This was a real kick in the balls for the club who are struggling financially. They are trying to cover along with Cottingham Tigers and Westella Willerby the loss in income from the NHS moving out of the offices above the main club house. This was a large amount of money to lose and went a big way to cover the costs of running Hill Top. Cottingham Cricket is a very proud grass roots community club and has teams starting from u9s all the way up to 4 men’s teams including a couple of girls teams and never turns away any player. Will Rhodes who captained England U19s and currently plays for Yorkshire came through Cottingham Cricket ranks. To see a fund quickly set up and well supported has well and truly restored my faith in the good people of Hull and East Yorkshire after being destroyed by a few mindless morons. I am hoping to get up there later to help with the cleaning up process. Last I had heard, they were still waiting for the police to turn up and to then start the cleaning up process. As OLM states the damage is estimated at around £1000, although one of the covers has also been damaged. I wasn’t expecting to have to get my cricket force tee shirt out again this year after the work we all did over the last couple of weeks.
I know a lot of dedicated people connected with this club. This is mindless vandalism of the lowest form. Absolute scum. This doesn't look like kids though. Kids would have taken all the crisps and sweets and how many kids even know what a Swastika is.
The fund raising is brilliant news. I know at first hand how much time volunteers put into cricket (& other sports) clubs and it must be heartbreaking to see vandalism like this. I know how I would feel if some toe rags trashed our club.
I think Howden cricket pavilion was burnt down by a 13 year old last year, they could easily do it and panic though you would hope not
I agree. Kids would have taken the goodies. I'm not sure about the swastika though. As a 10 year old I wore an iron cross replica I got from Hull fair. Mrs Sarrell beat the **** out me for wearing it school
Great news, I am hearing from the club tonight that police have three lads in custody with evidence, keys and sweets. The fund is now over £1500 which is fantastic. This has really cheered me up,I am now ready for my Red Card protest !
I do like the sound of leather on willow during the summer months. On a cricket note my middle wicket has been seeing plenty of action recently.
